21st Anniversary Quilt Show - Nanango
The Nanango Country Quilters & Crafts group are celebrating their 21st anniversary this week with a Quilt Show at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango. The show - which will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily from today through to Wednesday, September 5th features individual works by the group's members along with with Quilts of Love and Cancer Bags for oncology patients. A Wallhanging Challenge will also be on show (to be decided by viewers choice) and a beautiful quilt is being raffled, with the raffle proceeds being donated to breast cancer research (proceeds from Quilt Show itself are being donated to the Nanango SES). Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 7:30pm until late tonight. The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes a sausage sizzle and supper. The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404

Brian Mobbs Memorial Golf Day - Murgon
The annual Brian Mobbs Memorial Golf Day will be held at the Murgon Golf Club off the Bunya Highway south of the CBD from 8:30am onwards this morning. There'll be an 18-hole Mens and Ladies Honour Board Event (for players with an AGU Handicap) with Nett Winners, Rundowns and Approaches. But there'll also be a 5 Hole Competition for beginner golfers too. Cost is $10 per player (which includes a BBQ lunch) for the 5 hole event, or $15 per player for the 18-hole event (tee-off times are 10.30am to 12.30pm), and there'll be a monster raffle as well. All proceeds will go to aid motor neuron disease research.

The Eagels & Amber Goldsmith In Concert - Blackbutt
The first day of the 2012 Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Festival will kick off at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt tonight with a concert by "The Eagels", a stunningly accurate tribute band for Southern California’s most famous musical group. The Eagles enjoyed huge worldwide success in the 1970s with hits like Take It Easy, Hotel California, Desperado and New Kid in Town - and even today, their concert DVD “Hell Freezes Over” is still the best selling DVD ever. The aim of The Eagels is to replicate the experience of a live Eagles concert as closely as possible, and they'll be appearing onstage along with popular South Burnett performer Amber Goldsmith for a five star night of great family entertainment. Gates will open at 5:00pm if you went to secure a good spot and hot food and a licensed bar will be available too (no BYO). Tickets to tonight's concert are $20 for adults or $15 for students and pensioners (under-13s are free). They can be obtained in advance from the Blackbutt Visitor Information Centre in Hart Street, Blackbutt but they'll also be available at the gate this evening. Last year's Eagels concert was the biggest in Blackbutt's history and drew a crowd in excess of 650 people. This year's reprise concert promises to be even better.

95th Annual Wondai Show
The main public day of the 95th Annual Wondai Show will be held at Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from 8:30am this morning until around 7:00pm tonight when the Live Bucking Bull Bonanza kicks into action. This year's Show will feature a jam-packed programme of events including chain-saw racing; 3 rings of horse events; the second day of the South Burnett Kennel Club Dog Show (which will conclude tomorrow morning); Dreamtime Reptiles; a Buck A Bull mechanical bull; Viv's Animal Farm and Jacq's Circus School as well as chainsaw racing, demonstrations by local woodcrafters and many, many other things. There'll also be performances by the Wondai State School Choir and the Wondai Town Band; terrific art, craft and pavilion displays; and a great sideshow alley. The Show will be officially opened at 1:30pm and the Grand Parade will follow at around 2:30pm. This in turn will be followed by live entertainment from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Then the day will be capped off by the pulse-pounding Wondai IGA Live Bucking Bull Bonanza in the evening, which will get underway at 7:00pm sharp. A licensed bar and hot food outlets will be operating throughout the day and evening too. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for pensioners and high school students and $2 for primary schoolers (pre-schoolers are free!). And admission to the Wondai IGA Live Bucking Bull Bonanza is exactly the same - but if you go to the Wondai Show admission to the Live Bucking Bull Bonanza is included in the price! Tea and Tractors - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy will be celebrating the start of Spring with the opening of a new exhibition and the official launch of the Tractor Tattoo Festival this morning. The new exhibition - which will feature paintings, prints and pots created by members of the Jumping Ant Arts Group especially for the Tattoo - will open to the public at 10:00am and the Festival will be officially launched by SBRC Mayor Kratzmann at 10:30am with tea and scones, accompanied by entertainment from Sing Australia. Meanwhile - in the garden behind the adjoining Visitor Information Centre - a working 1939 Alice Chalmers tractor will be yarn-bombed by local artists Susan Goddard and Judy Gray with more than 40 creative friends, including members of the Angel Knitters and the Knitter Knatters as part of a community arts project. Admission to all events is free, and you can read more about some of the things that will be happening on this page of our website. (Note: After this morning's launch, the Tea And Tractors exhibition will remain on show at the Gallery until September 26th). Note: The Wondai Heritage Museum in Mackenzie Street, Wondai will also be opening a specual Tractor-Centric Display at 10:00am this morning as part of Tractor Tattoo. The display will feature models of tractors along with an original 1907 Ford tractor poster, and the exhibition will be open for viewing from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily until the end of the month.

South Burnett Soccer Grand Finals - Kingaroy
The Grand Finals of the 2012 Evolution Solar Soccer League will be played out at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy today in what looks like being a really brilliant triple-header of matches for soccer fans. In 2nd Division, Nanango will take on Wests at 1:00pm. This will be followed by the Womens Division grand final between Nanango and Gunnettes at 3:00pm, and then the 1st Division final between Nanango and Wests at 5:00pm. Afterwards, the season's presentations will be made: South Burnett Player Of The Year, Best & Fairest (for both men and women), the Roy Jenkins Ref's Choice of Best & Fairest (for both men and women) and several others. Speedway Club Practice Night - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding a Practice Night at the Speedway inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 5:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. The purpose of the event is to let members test their vehicles for the up-coming 2012-13 racing season and get back in harness for the season's first major event, which is coming up on the weekend of September 29th and 30th. Spectators are welcome along tonight too (admission is free) and the club's vcanteen will be operating if you get hungry or thirsty.

South Burnett Rugby League Major Semi Finals - Cherbourg
The South Burnett Rugby League will be playing their major semi-finals for both the Junior and Premier leagues today at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg. Matches will kick off with U12s (Cherbourg vs Nanango) at 9:00am. They'll be followed by the U14s (Kingaroy vs Central Burnett) at 10:00am; the U16s (Nanango vs Central Burnett) at 11:00am; the U16s (Cherbourg vs Kingaroy) at 12:00 noon; the U14s (Cherbourg vs Nanango) at 1:00pm; and then the U12s (Kingaroy vs Murgon) at 2:00pm. After this, the afternoon will be given over to the two A-Grade matches of the day: the Wondai Wolves vs the Blackbutt Timbertowners at 3:00pm; and then the Cherbourg Hornets vs the Kingaroy Red Ants at 4:30pm. Netball Grand Finals
The 2012 Midget, Junior and Cadet Netball Grand Finals will be played out at the Nanango Netball Courts in Brooklands Road, Nanango today. The Midgets will take to the courts at 12:00 noon. They'll be followed by the Juniors (Bubblegum vs Little Devils) at 1:00pm, and then the Cadets (Rug Rats vs another team) at 2:15pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome to come along and watch what are likely to be fast-moving, hard fought competitions which will be followed with presentations at the end of the day's play.

Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. 2012 Nanango Country Music Muster
The 2012 Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from the 6th to the 9th of September this year - and today the Muster will get underway in a low-key way as attendees file into Nanango from all over south-east Queensland to set up camp and prepare for a long weekend of country music fun. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. Bloomin Beautiful Blackbutt Festival
The first main day of the annual Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Festival will get underway at 8:00am this morning and continue on until late tonight (the second - and final - day of the Festival occurs tomorrow). The fourth (and final) day of the 2012 Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 7:00am this morning through until early this afternoon. Today the action will get underway with a Bush Breakfast enlivened by walk-up poets between 7:00am and 9:30am, and this will be followed with a Gospel Music Concert from 9:30am until around 12:00 noon, after which attendees are free to spend the afternoon packing up their campsites in a leisurely way and then head home. Food will be available in the Showgrounds from brekkie until the gates close today, and admission to the Gospel Music Concert and Bush Brekkie is totally free (though you'll have to buy your brekkie if you want to chow down). The South Burnett Rugby League will be playing their Preliminary Grand Final at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg at 12:00 noon today. The A-grade Cherbourg and Blackbutt teams will play off against one another to decide who'll face the Kingaroy Red Ants in this year's Grand final - and it should be a heck of a match! Cherbourg have had a very good run of wins this season and Blackbutt have turned in some very creditable performances too. So while Cherbourg probably go into the match as favourites based on their overall season performance, there's always the possibility of an upset win by the ever-improving Timbertowners. The Kragra Campdraft will be held from 6:00am this morning until late in the afternoon at the Kragra campdrft grounds. The second day of the 2nd annual Colours Of Yarraman Festival will be held at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street and the Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street, Yarraman today. The Bowls Club will be kicking off the first three rounds of a Calcutta Colours Of Yarraman Open Fours competition at 8:00am which will run through until late this afternoon. At the Yarraman Community Hall, meanwhile, this year's Art and Photography Exhibition will be on display to the public from 10:00am to 5:00pm for a gold coin donation entry. Tractor Tattoo - Kingaroy
Today is the main day of the month-long Tractor Tattoo celebration in the South Burnett. Tractor Tattoo will be held at the South Burnett Regional Council's Glendon Street forecourt from 4:00pm until around 8:00pm this evening. The event will kick off with exhibitions, entertainment and children's activities which will continue through until 6:00pm when a wide range of local performers will take to the stage (including the Blackbutt Singers, Caedonian Pipe Band, various bands from Kingaroy State High School, the Murgon State School Band, Nanango Theatre Company, Sing Australia, South Burnett Chorale, Susan Dowdle School Of Dance, Wondai & District Band and Wondai State School Band). They'll be followed at 7:00pm with "The Gathering Of The Tractors" - a display of 50 tractor cut-outs prepared by community groups from Benarkin to Windera for the Festival, along with the announcement of prize-winners. And then there'll be the unveiling of the Festival's centrepiece - a musical tractor - and the performance of a specially-commissioned work on it. In the adjoining Kingaroy Library there'll also be a range of events going on including a "Day In The Life Of A Tractor" workshop (to create a piece of artwork for the library); a photographic exhibition by the Murgon Camera Club; and a Kingaroy State High School Literature Showcase. The 2012 Grand Finals of the South Burnett rugby league competition will be held at Nanango RLFC's grounds off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango's CBD today. The U8s match between Nanango and Kingaroy will start the day at 8:00am and will be followed by the U10s match between Nanango and Blackbutt at 8:40am. The U12s decider between the Murgon Mustangs and Kingaroy Red Ants will be played at 9:30am. The third day of the 2nd annual Colours Of Yarraman Festival will be held at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street, the Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street and Errol Munt Park today. For lawn bowls enthusiasts, the Bowls Club will be probably be the place to be when it kicks off the final rounds of its Calcuttta Colours Of Yarraman Open Fours competition (which began yesterday) at 9:00am. Meanwhile - at the Yarraman Community Hall - this year's Art and Photography Exhibition will be on display to the public from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm for a gold coin donation entry - and after last night's announcement of the winners, you'll be able to view the winning entries too. Dementia Workshop - Kingaroy
SBCare and South Burnett cancer support group Birds Of A Feather will be jointly hosting a workshop on dementia in the Apex Room of the South Burnett Senior Citizens Centre at the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets, Kingaroy (opposite Super IGA) from 9:30am to 12:00 noon this morning. Carol Chapman from Alzheimer's Australia will be a special guest speaker, and the seminar will focus on how our brains age and dementia risk reduction strategies. Queensland Police Remembrance Day Service - Kumbia
A service to remember fallen Queensland police officers will be held at the Kumbia Anglican Church at the corner of Brook Road and Gordon Street in Kumbia at 3:00pm this afternoon. The service is one of a number that will be held throughout the North Coast Police District today to pay tribute to the 139 police officers who have lost their lives in the course of duty. Members of the public are welcome to attend, and blue ribbons are available from local police stations for a small donation (the proceeds will assist Queensland Police Legacy and Community Supporting Police).

South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 10 Kingaroy Street in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Centenary Of St Faith's Church - Mondure
A special ceremony to celebrate the centenary of St Faith's Church in Mondure will be held at the church at 11:00am this morning. The chuch was offically opened on October 6th, 1912 on a different site and relocated to its present site in 1924. The inaugural South Burnett On Show will be running throughout the South Burnett right through this long weekend. South Burnett On Show is an initiative of the South Burnett Wine Industry Association and it's designed to showcase the region's wineries, cellar doors, festivals and tourist attractions to both locals and visitors. King Of The Park Challenge - Manar
The Manar Adventure Park near Proston will be holding the first day of their inaugural two-day "King Of The Park Challenge" today. The Challenge is based on the legendary "King Of The Hammers" event held in the USA every year and will involve Tuff Trucks, Winch Trucks and Offroad Racing Buggies all competing against each other for the title King Of The Park. Competitors will run against each other at the same time over some really rough terrain at the 15,000 acre park, trying to make their way between 30 GPS points spread throughout the property. Each team will need to think which way best suits their vehicle, and they'll only receive the GPS co-ordinates just before they leave the starting line. There'll be spectator points set up around the course that will enable you to look down and see muliple cars running against each other below you (which will provide some pretty great viewing!). There'll also be trade stands on show too, as well as a designated pit area. Spectators are very welcome, and a 1 Day pass is $10 per adult, $5 per child or $30 per family (2 Day passes are $15 per adult, $7.50 per child or $45 per family). The Burnett Softball Association will be holding a Burnett Simple Softball coaching clinic for primary school aged children at the Nanango Sporting Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango from9:00am to 2:30pm today (matches start at 9:30am sharp). 2012 Boots 'N' Bulldust Festival - Nanango
The 3rd annual Country Focus Boots 'N' Bulldust Festival will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 9:00am this morning (when the gates open) through until late tonight. This year's Festival will feature the Boots’n Bulldust Ute Muster and Bendigo Bank South Burnett Championship Ute Muster (from 10:00am) with judging in 11 different classes, as well as a Billy Cart Muster for youngsters and the young at heart. This will be followed at 3:00pm with an APRA Rodeo featuring an Open Bull Ride for $1,000 in prize-money; Open Saddle Bronc, Bull Ride, Bare Back, Rope & Tie, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Ladies Barrel Ride and Breakaway Roping events for $600 each; 2nd division Saddle Bronc, Bull Ride and Bare Back events for $400 prize-money each; and Junior Barrel Racing and Steer Wrestling event for $200 prize-money each. And all this - in turn - will be followed by the Boots 'N' Bulldust Concert from 9:00pm until around 1:00am featuring a wide variety of experienced and up-and-coming country music artists. During the course of the day there'll also be a lot of other fun events to keep visitors amused, including a Ute Jumping Dog Competition; Post Ripping; a Rural Iron Man/Iron Woman compeition; and a Wife Carrying competition; as well as musical performances throughout the grounds. Food and drink will be available in the grounds all day and night too, and overnight camping facilities are also available if you want to make a full weekend of it. Boots 'N' Bulldust is a fundraiser for mental health services - particularly those which help people with depression - and admission to this year's Festival is just $15 for adults; $10 for pensioners and young people aged 6 to 17 (under 5s are free) or $35 for a family of four. Victor and Ben Bray - Kingaroy
Racing stars Victor Bray (pictured at right) and his son Ben Bray will be appearing at Sunshine Mitre 10 at Rogers Drive in Kingaroy from 9:00am to 2:00pm today as part of a charity fundraiser for local girl Chloe Blinco-Kregenbrink, 4, who contracted a virus when she was just 18 months old which left her with severe nerve damage. The Brays will be bringing along two of their supercharged 2000hp display cars - a 1957 Chevy and a 2005 Monaro ute - as well as their merchandise truck, and fans will be able to grab photos and autographs. Enchanted Faces facepainting, Zarly Anne’s Tone & Tan’s hoopercise, a best-decorated bike competition and a jumping castle will also be on the grounds to entertain young and old, and Kingaroy Rotary will be putting on a sausage sizzle, and there'll be a silent auction of some really great sporting memorabilia too. BP Dam Family Fishing Classic
After an absence of 6 years, the BP Dam Family Fishing Classic will be returning to Bjelke-Petersen Dam this weekend.
