Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. Changes To Queensland Smoking Laws
New laws which come into effect today will further limit the places where smokers can light up. From today, smoking will be banned within ten metres of skate parks and playgrounds. Smoking will also be banned at public swimming pool complexes. The new laws are designed to protect children from the dangers of second-hand smoke, and smokers can be fined for breaching them.

South Burnett Pantry - Tablelands
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from noon to 2:30pm today at Tablelands Hall in Tablelands. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Little Shop Of Horrors - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting the fourth performance of this year's production "Little Shop Of Horrors" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm this evening. Little Shop Of Horrors is a 1980s comedy rock musical about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human beings. The main characters are Seymour Krelborn, who runs the florist shop for his overbearing boss Mr Mushnik, and Seymour’s love interest Audrey, who wants to leave her abusive dentist boyfriend Orin. The show’s music, composed by Alan Menken in early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and Motown styles, includes several well-known tunes ... and as the play goes on, the plant steadily grows bigger and hungrier, eating one character after another. Tickets to see the show are $25 for adults, $20 for pensioners and $15 for children and they'll be available at the door.

Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango

9th Annual SPOTS Concert - Nanango
Nanango State High School students will be performing their 9th annual SPOTS Concert - which this year will have a Harry Potter theme - at the Nanango State High School community hall in Elk Street, Nanango from 5:30pm until around 9:30pm tonight. The SPOTS concert is an annual event organised by the Grade 10 business class and it will feature many, many different acts ranging from singers, dancers and tap through to hip hop and bands, all battling it out to win the grand prize. A sausage sizzle will be rolled out for dinner and other foods and drinks will be available at the canteen. St Joseph's School in Angel Avenue, Murgon will be holding their annual School Fete from 5:30pm to around 9:00pm today as a fundraiser for the school and parish. In addition to plenty of food and market stalls, there'll be performances by students from all grades from Prep through to Year 7, as well as fun entertainment for the whole family including amusement rides; celebrity dunking of teachers and police; a giant double-lane Big Drop slide and lots more, plus live entertainment. South Burnett rugby league fans need to head to T. J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The action will kick off at 9:00am with round robin matches for the U6's/8's/10's. This will be followed at 10:30am with the U12s Grand Final between Kingaroy and Central Burnett, then an U14s girls match at noon between Kingaroy and Hervey Bay. Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster
The 2016 Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from the 8th to the 11th of September this year - and today the Muster will get underway in a low-key way as attendees file into Nanango from all over south-east Queensland to set up camp and prepare for a long weekend of country music fun. The 2016 Muster will kick off with a BBQ and a Campers Walk Up Concert which will start at 10:00am and continue until around 1:00pm; and then an Evening Walk Up Concert from 6:00pm to 10:00pm tonight. A bar will be operating at the Showgrounds from 10:00am to midnight as well. You can get in to attend today's barbie and concerts for free, but tomorrow the fee will be $20; an all-day Saturday pass will be $30 (or $15 if you want to attend from 3:00pm onwards); or you can buy a 4-day pass to the entire event for $45 (young people aged 14 to 17 can get tickets for half price, and under-14s accompanied by an adult can get in for free). Camping will also be available at the Showgrounds and fees range between $7 and $9 per night for unpowered or powered sites - but a booking for any camp site is essential because the Muster usually packs the Showgrounds to capacity. This will be followed with an Invited Artists Concert from 12:00 noon to 10:00pm, and a bar and canteen will be operating at the Showgrounds all day as well. The Murgon branch of National Seniors will be running a coach trip to Tara, The Gums and Meandarra in the Western Downs region today. Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club Rally - Kingaroy
The annual two-day Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club Rally will be held at Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport between 9:00am and 4:00pm today (as well as 9:00am to 12:00 noon tomorrow). The rally attracts vintage machinery enthusiasts from all over South East Queensland and there'll be a huge range of antique machinery on display including cars, tractors, trucks, crawlers and stationary engines. If you're hungry, there'll also be a barbecue, food and drink stalls operating all day too. The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Heritage Bank Nanango Cup Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club Rally - Kingaroy
The second (and final) day of the Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club Rally will be held at Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport between 9:00am and 12:00 noon today. The rally attracts vintage machinery enthusiasts from all over South East Queensland and there'll be a huge range of antique machinery on display including cars, tractors, trucks, crawlers and stationary engines. Other highlights include a Grand Parade, slow tractor races, sled pulling, ploughing, ring events and much, much more! If you're hungry, there'll also be a barbecue, food and drink stalls operating all day too. Exhibitors from other clubs are also very welcome, but you'll need to arrange your own public liability insurance (which will be sighted on arrival). Miners Memorial Day
Today is Miners Memorial Day, which highlights the most important aspects of mining: the safety and health of the men and women who work in our mines, and the economic and social importance of the mining sector to delivering prosperity to Queensland. Since 2008, an annual service has been held in a Queensland mining community every year on September 19. This is the anniversary of the state’s worst mining mine disaster, when 75 miners were killed in explosion at the Mount Mulligan coal mine in far north Queensland in 1921.

Ringsfield Film Society Movie Afternoon - Nanango
The Ringsfield Film Society will be screening a Sunday afternoon movie at their cinema - the old chapel in the grounds of Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango - at 2:30pm today. This month's film is "Seven Little Australians", a classic Australian children's novel by Ethel Turner written in 1894. Set mainly in Sydney in the 1880s, it relates the adventures of the seven mischievous Woolcot children, their stern army father Captain Woolcot, and flighty stepmother Esther. In 1994 the novel was the only book by an Australian author to have been continuously in print for 100 years and today's film - shot in 1939 - is the only film to have been made of the book, though there have been two TV series (by the BBC and ABC) and several theatre adaptations. Art Gallery Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their eighth monthly exhibition for 2016 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting the 18th annual South Burnett Regional Art Competition, which showcases works in art, photography, sculpture and ceramics categories created exclusively by South Burnett artists. The competition offers $4800 in prize monies, including a $1500 South Burnett Acquisitive sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council, and is the biggest art competition of its kind in the region. Tonight's opening will also launch this year's South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival of events, and it will be followed by the festival's Sample The South Burnett & Cherbourg Dinner across the road at Dimities Cottage, followed by an After Party with Muddy Flats the 102-year-old Wondai Hotel & Cellar (see entries below). David Bryce Centenary Art Exhibition - Kingaroy
The David Bryce Centenary Art Exhibition will be on display at the Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Wondai (just opposite the peanut silos) from 10:00am to 4:00pm today. David Bryce was one of the South Burnett's most celebrated artists, and would have turned 100 this year had he still been alive. This special exhibition of more than 140 of his paintings and sculptures - drawn from private and public collections - is the largest single display of his work ever seen. Several of Bryce's works are now part of the Queensland Art Gallery's collection, and many others are part of the South Burnett Regional Council's collection. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
