Queensland Week Celebration - Blackbutt
Queensland Week is celebrated from June 1-9, and today the Friends Of Cultcha will be holding a special day-long family celebration from 8:00am to 3:00pm in and around the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street to mark the occasion. The day will kick off at 8:00am with a Poet's Breakfast and market stalls (which will trade all day). This will be followed by a flag-raising ceremony at 9:00am, and then addresses by Emergency Services personnel at 9:30am. Then at 10:00am, the "Windy City Jazzmen" will take to the stage to perform easy-listening music until 2:00pm, and a free lunch of soup and damper will be served up in the hall from 11:30am to 1:30pm (just perfect for a winter's day!). After this at 2:00pm, a representative of the Premier will give an address, and this will be followed by the presentation of prizes and awards at 2:15pm, then at 2:45pm by a sponsors' acknowledgement and some other addresses. In addition to these things, there'll also be a Super Slide, Merry-Go-Round and a Jumping Castle for children to play in set up in the grounds next to the hall; free face-painting and a Circus School; encaustic card-making in the Art tent; and several great displays local community groups on show. Burrandowan Campdraft
The second day of the 2013 Burrandowan Campdraft - which was originally scheduled for February 16-17, but had to be postponed due to floods - will be held at the Burrandowan Race Course 66km west of Kingaroy today. As was the case yesterday, the action will get underway at 7:00am - but today there'll be four events on offer: a Maiden Draft, the CM Jacobs Memorial Junior Draft, a Juvenile Draft; and a Restricted Sweepstakes Open Draft. They'll be followed in the evening by a Sunday night meal of lasagne or beef casserole with vegies and a dinner roll, plus apple crunmble and cstard for dessert. prepared by the Durong South P&C - a spit roast and vegies plus dessert - at $10 for the main and $3 for the dessert. Sunday Markets - Kilkivan
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 11:00am this morning. The markets feature an array of locally produced fruit, vegetables and merchandise and new stallholders are always welcome! More details? Phone Dulcie on (07) 5484-1032
What's On At The Wineries This Long Weekend
All the South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Open Mic Day - Nanango
Seascape Studios at 52 Arthur Street in Nanango will be hosting an Open Mic Day at their premises from 11:00am to 10:00pm today. Seascape will be supplying a stage and PA set-up, and all guests need to bring are their musical instruments, BBQ food, chairs and whatever they want to drink. Everyone is welcome - it's a family and child-friendly venue - and camping is available on-site if you want to sleep over. Lunch In The Country Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding another of their regular Lunch In The Country Smorgasbords from 12:00pm to 2:00pm today. The cost is a modest $15.00 per person for a really great feed (BYO), but bookings are advisable if you want to be certain of a seat: (07) 4168-5744
Murgon CBD Markets
The monthly Murgon Markets will be held in Lamb Street in the heart of Murgon from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets offer locally-made crafts, foods and produce and are always an interesting Sunday morning out. New stall-holders are always welcome too! More details? Kilkivan Tom Quilty Presentations and Dinner
June 3-10 is Kilkivan Tom Quilty Week, and this year's ride will conclude today at the Kilkivan Showgrounds in Mudlo Road with presentations, prizes, a dinner and a charity auction. Today's action will get underway at 8:00am with a Best Condition judging and the Pat Slater Cup Presentation. This will be followed at 11:00am with the presentation of the Gold Cup; and then at 1:00pm with a Presentation Ceremony including Buckles and Teams events. Tables for the Quilty Dinner will open at 6:00pm and it will run until late into the night and include a Charity Auction, prize draws and live entertainment by Glen Albrecht. Tickets for the dinner can be booked on the Kilkivan Quilty website, but admission to see the rest of today's events is free. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Timbertown Woodworkers Group Meeting - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers Group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am until around 12:00pm today. Permaculture Talk - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Community Garden group will be holding a free permaculture talk at the Kingaroy Senior Citizens Centre at the corner of Alford and Kingaroy Streets, Kingaroy (opposite SuperIGA) from 11:00am to 1:00pm this morning. Today's talk will be about ants, and it will be followed by lunch in the garden. Everyone is welcome!
