South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
The Spring Ball will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late tonight. This month, music will be supplied by Shades Of Country and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Music & Movies Trivia Night - Yarraman
The Yarraman State School P&C will be running a Trivia Night at the Yarraman State School Hall in John Street from 5:30pm tonight as a fundraiser. The dress theme will be "Life In The Country" and in addition to mind-snapping questions about music and movies, there'll be snack platters, hot food, a licensed bar and a Kids Corner on offer as well. Play will take place in teams of 4 to 10 and playing fees are just $10 per head. You can find out more and/or book a table by phoning Lea on 0407-737-624.
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Proston Parkrun
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
South Burnett Shed Men - Booie
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 69th meeting at Nev & Jason's Jorgensen's Machinery Shed at 88 Jorgensens Road, Booie at 6:00pm tonight. The meeting will feature local welfare worker and Christian magician Trevor Ballin as guest speaker. All men and young blokes are very welcome to this completely free event, but they should BYO food and drinks (a BBQ will be supplied and cooks will be available). There'll also be a donation box to help support a suggested local charity. Everyone is welcome, but to help plan the seating an RSVP would be greatly appreciated. Buzz Talay & The Stone River Fever - Linville
Brisbane Valley country funk band Buzz Talay & The Stone River Fever will be performing over lunch and dinner at The Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville today (ie 12:30pm to 2:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm). Linville Landcare Festival
Brisbane Valley-Kilcoy Landcare Association's inaugural Linville Landcare Festival will be held at Linville Hall and the adjoining community garden in George Street, Linville from 9:00am to 2:00pm today. This free, family-friendly event will feature live music, giveaways and expert talks, and native plants and bush tucker products will also be available for purchase. Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann will officially open the festival after a Welcome to Country by the Jinibara people, and the day will kick off with a bush tucker demonstration and tasting by Aunty Dal at 9:00am, followed by a range of guest speakers. There'll also be a morning tea at 10:30am accompanied by a coffee cart. Everyone is welcome!
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Bicycle Museum Opening - Blackbutt
Brett Richardson's Bicycle Building School and Bicycle Museum will be officially opened at 10:30am this morning by South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto. The Museum has been under development for several months and features a range of rare and unusual bicycles, including Penny Farthings. Entry is via the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (heading towards Nukku, it's the first house past the Uniting Church) and everyone is welcome.
Saturday Cricket - Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon
There's another big Saturday of cricket today with Gympie A-Grade, South Burnett Seniors and South Burnett Juniors matches all in action. In Round 9 of the Gympie A-Grade Competition, Murgon Crusaders will play Gympie Colts at Spencer Oval in Gympie, and Wooroolin Warriors will play Gympie Valleys at Jack Ison Oval, also in Gympie (both matches start at noon). And in the fifth round of the South Burnett Seniors competition, Wooroolin Colts will play Nanango at Kingaroy's Lyle Vidler Oval; Cherbourg will play Murgon at Murgon State High School; Wooroolin Vikings will play Wondai at the Wondai Cricket Grounds; (all at 12:30pm) while Kingaroy Services have the bye. Finally, in Juniors, Kingaroy Pineview Brangus will play Nanango at Kingaroy State School, and Kingaroy Westlink will play Kingaroy Wamuran Timbers at the River Road pitch in Stage 2; and in Stage 3, Nanango Mixed will play Kingaroy Mixed at the Wondai Cricket Grounds (all juniors matches start at 8:00am). Spectators are very welcome at all games.
Saturday Night Karaoke - Wondai
The Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai will be hosting Love 2 Sing Karaoke - the South Burnett's most popular karaoke duo - from 7:30pm until late tonight. Bunya Mountains Community Association Meeting - Dandabah
The Bunya Mountains Community Association will be meeting at the Bunya Mountains Rural Fire Brigade Shed in Dandabah at 2:00pm this afternoon. The meeting will discuss progress on a range of projects the group is working on, and the meeting will be followed by a $5 sausage sizzle with salads and a dessert, along with tea and coffee. All interested people are welcome to attend.
