South Burnett Australia Day Awards - Wondai
- The South Burnett Regional Council will be presenting the region's 6th annual Australia Day Awards at a special ceremony at the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 6:00pm this evening (presentations begin at 6:30pm). The awards provide the community with an opportunity to acknowledge and reward outstanding groups and individuals committed to improving the lifestyle experience of our region. The award categories that have been chosen give all the region's communities equal opportunity to nominate individuals and/or groups who've made special contributions to the area, and everyone is welcome to attend. Wondai Country Markets
- The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
- The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into life at 4:00pm this afternoon with the second day of their bumper three-day Kings Royal Modified Production Meeting - probably the biggest single race meeting the club has ever held. Tonight's racing will feature the second heat of the Kings Royal Modified Productions, along with the finals of the South Burnett Junior Nationals (for Juniors); the first round of the Australian Grand Prix (for Proddies - finals tomorrow night) and also the first round of the Ollies Towing Peanut Crown (for 4-Cylinders - finals tomorrow as well). Tickets for tonight are $25 for adults, $15 for students/pensioners or $65 for families of four (under 12s are free) or you can buy a 3-day super pass for the whole weekend: $60 for adults, $40 for students/pensioners or $150 for a family. Camping is also available in the Showgrounds for the entire weekend for $60 per site - but first in, best-dressed! (gates open at 9:00am). You can find out more on the Speedway's website.
Breakfast & Brunch At Dimities - Wondai
- Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai (opposite the Wondai Art Gallery) will be holding a Breakfast and Brunch Experience today in conjunction with the monthly Wondai Markets (see entry elsewhere on this page). Chef Graham and his friendly staff will be serving up all sorts of delicious breakfast and brunch treats from the blackboard menu, providing a great way to relax and take a break from the shopping in Coronation Park. Dirt, Bikes and Music - Manar Park
- Today is Day 1 of Manar Park's Australia Day Long Weekend Dirt Bike Challenge, and today's featured event will be qualifiers and heats for the Dirt Bike Challenge from 9:00am. But if you prefer, the Park's bike trails and 4WD tracks will be open from 6:30am to 6:30pm for practice runs or your very own heart-pounding adventure. In the evening, there'll be live music from 6:00pm along with a licensed bar while highlights from the day's activities will be displayed on a big screen under the main marquee, along with lucky draw prizes for spectators. Robbie Burns Dinner - Kingaroy
- Och! Here's something different! Accents Catering (formerly Accents Restaurant and Cafe) will be holding their fourth annual Robbie Burns Dinner from 6:00pm this evening in honour of the famous Scottish poet who was born in Ayrshire on January 25, 1759 (pictured at right). Chef Jimmy Stephen will be hosting a sumptuous five course dinner at Kingaroy Town Hall for $75.00 per head along with Highland dancers, pipers and a drummer plus a special guest to address the haggis (!!!).
