Nanango New Year Races
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual New Year Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 12:30pm to around 4:30pm this afternoon. Today's meeting will have a "Pink Perfection and Pinstripes" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best pink outfits and/or pinstripes to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The club's popular Pink Champagne bar will be running all day too - how appropriate! - and there'll also be a licensed bar and BBQ operating under the new, extended covered area; bookmakers and an on-course tote. A lot of people like to use the New Year Race Meeting for summertime parties, and you can picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee. This will be a 5-race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Carrollee Hotel (at noon) and Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:15pm), and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. But gates will open at the track at around 10:00am so that go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free) and everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Rosemary on (07) 4163-2346. PS: If you've never been to the Nanango Races before, you can get an idea of what a fun day out they are by reading our report of the club's last meeting in December 2013.
Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway Open Practice Night
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be roaring into life between 5:00pm and 10:00pm this evening with an Open Practice Night for drivers who want to warm up for the big Kings Royal weekend later this month. For $50 per car, drivers will be able to slam the pedal to the metal on a fully prepared track with a fire and crash crew in attendance (just in case things go horribly wrong). And spectators who'd like to get a ringside seat to breathe in the atmosphere can get in absolutely free. You can find out more on the Speedway's website.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and an under-cover play area for children. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282
Show Jumping Under The Stars - Nanango
The Nanango Hack and Pony Club will be holding Show Jumping Under The Stars this afternoon and evening at the Nanango Pony Club grounds, which are located inside the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street. Show Jumping Under The Stars is open to all keen riders, whether they're current NPC members or not. Nominations will be taken at 3:00pm and jumping will start at 3:30pm in the rodeo arena and continue under lights once darkness falls. Drinks and a sausage sizzle will be available on site too. Everyone is welcome - spectators are free - and you can obtain more details by phoning Judy on (0447) 168-209. You can also get a program by emailing her.
