Popular 4SB radio announcer and country music singer Larry Cann could be the winner from SCA’s jobs shake-up

June 16, 2026

Bronte & Lakey (aka Bronte Langbroek and Danny Lakey) topped the ratings in the South Burnett during the last radio survey, but that hasn’t saved their jobs.

The pair, who broadcast their breakfast spot across the Hit radio network from the Gold Coast, are the latest victims of a massive media shake-up by station owners SCA, the business formed in January by the merger of Southern Cross Media and Seven West Media.

Between 200 and 300 people across the merged entity are expected to be axed before the end of June.

The company hopes to save $150 million by cutting staff, or about 9 per cent of current operating costs.

Staff at West Australian Newspapers and reporters in Seven Network newsrooms have also been made redundant.

The loss of Bronte & Lakey from 89.1FM may be good news for 4SB brekkie host Larry Cann, who was just pipped for top spot by the pair in the May Xtra Insights survey.
