Have you noticed the small yellow boxes popping up in some South Burnett parks?

The boxes, accompanied by special park benches, are part of a partnership with the South Burnett Suicide Prevention Working Group to promote R U OK?

The project aims to create welcoming spaces where people can connect, check in with one another and encourage conversations about mental health support, one conversation at a time.

“The seating provides a welcoming space in our local parks for people to pause and have a chat, with signage displaying support contacts for those who may need it,” South Burnett Suicide Prevention Working Group chair Cr Danita Potter said.

The benches were bought through the R U OK? Foundation and Council’s parks team worked with GX Outdoors to design a seating cube with the R U OK? logo to promote mental health awareness.

One bench seat, two seating cubes and a sign with phone numbers are being installed in:

  • Lions Park, Kingaroy
  • Lions Park, Nanango
  • Skate Park, Blackbutt
  • McKell Park, Wondai
  • Skate Park, Murgon

This project has been funded by a Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant.
