Engine failure has been blamed for an incident which forced a pilot to make an emergency landing in a paddock near Memerambi on October 21.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) spokesperson said that during the flight, the pilot of the Beechcraft Bonanza light aircraft detected abnormal vibrations from the engine.

“The engine subsequently failed and the pilot observed oil on the windscreen,” the spokesperson said.

“The pilot conducted a forced landing in a paddock and collided with a fence, resulting in substantial damage.

“Nil injuries were reported.”

The incident occurred near Memerambi-Gordonbrook Road.

Emergency services – including police, QAS and QFD – were called to the scene about 1:45pm.

The single-engine aircraft had taken off from the Sunshine Coast Airport at 1:12pm and was believed to be en route to Redcliffe via Kingaroy when the incident occurred.

After gathering relevant information, the ATSB has determined it will not conduct an investigation.
