Red Earth chair Georgie Somerset

Local philanthropic organisation, Red Earth Community Foundation, is calling for expressions of interest from people who would be interested in becoming directors.

Chair Georgie Somerset said it did not matter whether applicants were “a seasoned Board director” or had never sat at a boardroom table, so long as they cared deeply about the future of the Burnett Inland.

“Red Earth has been quietly doing the hard work of regional development since before the 2013 floods, building leaders, connecting communities, and creating the infrastructure that lets local people invest in their own backyard,” Mrs Somerset said.

She said Red Earth had secured Deductible Gift Recipient status, which meant the foundation was now “entering a genuinely exciting next chapter”.

However, directors are expected to bring more than governance skills.

Red Earth values people who will “open doors, roll up their sleeves and actively champion the regions they call home”.

Board meetings are held bi-monthly via videoconference or in-person, and directors serve on at least one working group.

Red Earth is seeking people who can contribute across areas including:

  • Governance, legal expertise or risk management
  • Investment, finance or philanthropy
  • Government relations, advocacy or communications
  • Agriculture, health, education or community development
  • Deep knowledge of and connection to the Burnett Inland

Applications from younger leaders, First Nations leaders and people with diverse lived experience are strongly encouraged.
