June 15, 2025

There’s some big changes happening at South Burnett Online … and all will be revealed on Tuesday night at the next Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry meet’n’greet.

SBO was founded in September 1999 as an online portal for the region, a project of the then-South Burnett Local Government Association.

Its mission was to:

  • Promote the economic growth and development of the South Burnett region
  • Assist our region’s world-class exporting businesses expand their markets
  • Spread knowledge about how to conduct effective online business as widely as possible through our local communities; and
  • Provide a genuine local online service to South Burnett residents.

It began operating on the internet on March 14, 2000.

It was bought and privatised several years later and became a full online newspaper on April 2, 2012.

The design of  South Burnett Online has changed many times over the years … and now the way it will be run into the future is also changing.
