Toowoomba councillors have endorsed an engineering study into upgrades which will become necessary over the next decade to the water supply network in Yarraman.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, the TRC endorsed the study into Yarraman’s water requirements as well as proposed upgrades to the sewerage networks in Pittsworth and Greater Western Toowoomba.

The studies identified the three infrastructure upgrades – estimated to cost about $30.5 million – which should be included in the Local Government Infrastructure Plan.

Deputy Mayor Cr Rebecca Vonhoff said the studies were a crucial step in planning for the region’s long-term growth.

“These studies have identified areas where water and sewerage infrastructure will need to be upgraded within the next decade,” Cr Vonhoff said.

The Yarraman Water Supply Study identified the need for a range of upgrades and potential sites for a new water treatment plant, aimed at improving the current treatment process. This need will become increasingly important as the local population grows.

The sewerage network studies revealed that both the Pittsworth Water Reclamation Facility and the Wetalla Water Reclamation Facility were projected to reach capacity at least a decade earlier than previously expected, based on updated growth data.
