Applications are now open for the State Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund  which aims to unlock much-needed housing in Queensland.

The $500 million Round 1 is focused on shovel-ready projects that can start sooner.

At least half of the fund will be invested in regional Queensland.

Councils or landowners can apply for funding to build the infrastructure needed for a development, such as water supply, sewerage, drainage, power or roadworks.

Projects will be assessed on the local need for housing, as well as demand, scale and benefit to the community.

Construction must start during this year.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the Residential Activation Fund would help unlock land and get more homes built sooner, helping people find a place to call home.

“We’ve guaranteed $1 billion specifically for regional Queensland, because we know how urgently our communities require new housing,” she said.
