The State Government has begun consultations to develop a 25-year plan to “future-proof” Queensland primary industries.
Consultations on the 25-year blueprint began at a DPI forum held in Brisbane on Wednesday to sketch out priorities.
More than 250 farmers, industry leaders and community members from across Queensland gathered for the talks.
The State Government has made a commitment to increase Queensland’s agricultural output by $30 billion by 2030.
Some of the key points raised by stakeholders at the forum included:
- Ensuring agriculture remains profitable into the future,
- Industry workforce issues, including the retention of workers, and
- Ensuring that young people are encouraged to look at careers in primary industries.
Consultation for the long-term strategic vision will continue over the next four months.
A blueprint would then be released during the next financial year.
Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett said the blueprint was critical to reaching the State Government’s goal of growing Queensland’s primary industries.
“Our 25-year plan will be practical, deliverable, and built on the collective knowledge of those who work, live, and breathe our primary industries,” Minister Perrett said.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering A Fresh Start for Queensland, and we are dedicated to making sure primary producers and industry have a stronger future.”
