Timber harvesting in the Yarraman State Forest – which had been planned to start in early November – will now begin at the end of this month.
An HQPlantations spokesperson said 15ha of a 35ha area of plantation hoop pines will be harvested between January and March.
More than 11,000 hoop pine trees will then be replanted on the same site to continue the plantation cycle.
Access to Yarraman Forest Drive and the Rogers Park picnic area will be closed for several months to ensure public safety while the harvesting takes place nearby.
Once the harvesting is complete, access will be reopened.
The spokesperson said the original harvest was postponed due to shifts in market conditions and product demand.
Harvesting, haulage, replanting and most of the sawmill processing would be undertaken by Burnett, Burpengary and Gympie-based family-owned businesses.
The spokesperson said other local traffic would largely be unaffected.
About 10-12 loads of logs would be hauled on the Yarraman-Tarong Road each day during daylight hours, however road users should be alert for heavy vehicles.
“Inquiries about the harvest can be directed to HQPlantations’ Blackbutt office on (07) 5484-4202,” the spokesperson said.
