The STEC Job Board is designed to help South Burnett students and employers connect more efficiently

May 8, 2024

A new service designed to help South Burnett students find their first job is now being published on southburnett.com.au

The Students To Employment Connections (STEC) Job Board allows employers to advertise student jobs for free, and allows students to find employment opportunities suited to their abilities.

The job board has come about through the joint efforts of representatives from schools and local businesses, who have been working on the concept for more than a year.

A prototype was unveiled at a Kingaroy of Chamber and Commerce and Industry meet’n’greet in Kingaroy in February.

The new jobs board is operated through the Employment Matters website.

“This community initiative answers the needs of students to access a centralised student job board,” project leader Sheena Lindholm said.

She said the group found that an easy way to recruit students for jobs was a problem businesses needed a solution for, and the group was thrilled when Employment Matters agreed to provide the job board service.

The STEC group has been meeting once a month during school terms to share opportunities for students to learn work skills and seek work opportunities, as well as expose students to local industries.

The STEC initiative is being auspiced by BIEDO which will be running a free seminar for employers on Thursday, May 30, to explain the benefits of the STEC system for local businesses.
