Wet weather saw yarding numbers drop to 400 at the most recent Murgon cattle sale last Tuesday.

Better Export cattle sold to firm values and the market for heavy cows improved.

However the weaner market remains very tough, bearing in mind that not many lines of better weaners were yarded.

Cattle for the sale were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Nanango, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.51/kg and $2560
  • Heavy Cows over 500kg improved, selling to $2.40/kg and $1450 (average of $2.30/kg)
  • Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.15/kg for $1010
  • Cows under 400kg topped at $2.10/kg, averaging $1.74/kg
  • Export heifers sold to $2.65/kg for $1250
  • Brangus steers from Tansey sold to $3.10/kg for $1400
  • 427kg steers from MP Creek sold for $1280 at $3.00/kg
  • 334kg Brangus steers from Tansey sold for $3.16/kg, returning $1050
  • 337kg Droughtmaster cross steers from Corndale sold for $1050 at $3.10/kg
  • Charbray cross steers from Hivesville sold for $1230 at $3.10/kg
  • 288kg Brangus steers sold to $940 at $3.26/kg
  • Braford steers from Mt Perry sold for $2.98/kg to return $890
  • Simmental cross weaner steers from Wooroolin sold for $840 at $3.30/kg
  • Charolais cross weaner steers from Wooroonden sold to $3.27/kg for $880
  • 390kg Simmental cross heifers sold to $930 at $2.40/kg
  • Brangus heifers ex Tansey sold for $2.30/kg, returning $915
  • Braford heifers ex Mt Perry sold to $2.73/kg and $845
  • A line of 44 Brangus weaner heifers from Gayndah sold for $2.31/kg, topping at $624

The next Murgon Sale will be on Tuesday, April 16 at 8:00am.
