Jane Grove and Beryl Cann … the pair organised the three-day workshop in Kingaroy

September 6, 2023

An embroidery workshop with a difference attracted 20 eager participants – and thousands of dollars worth of specialist equipment – to Kingaroy last week.

The three-day workshop, held at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre, was led by Jane Grove who travelled from Townsville to share her skills in computerised machine embroidery.

Computer embroidery involves a specialist computer sewing machine stitching a design on to fabric, following a pattern which has been uploaded.

It produces professional-looking work in a fraction of the time of hand sewing, but still requires great skill and patience from the operator.

The workshop attracted craftspeople from as far away as Blackwater and Moura … and there was a waiting list!

The amazing thing is that the workshop was booked out simply by word-of-mouth, with nil advertising.

Jane, who describes herself as a “freelance educator”, met Kingaroy resident Beryl Cann in 2015, and since then Beryl has been urging Jane to hold a workshop in the South Burnett.

The pair put their heads together to organise the event which ran from Friday to Sunday.

Sue McWaters, from the Maidenwell Quilters, was one of the keen participants
Tracey Oakford, from Kingaroy, was working hard on her piece
Lillian Window, from Bray Park, travelled to Kingaroy to take part
