The efforts of McEuen Rural Fire Brigade volunteer Nathan Lloyd have been recognised as part of this year’s Rural Fire Service Week (July 31-August 6).

Nathan was presented with the prestigious Young Volunteer of the Year award for the North Coast Region at a small ceremony at the Area Command facility in Kingaroy at the weekend.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Greg Leach and Rural Fire Service Assistant Commissioner John Bolger did the honours.

Nathan’s citation states that he received the award for “attending incidents and supporting the Tansey, Goomeri and Gympie communities during the recovery phase of the 2022 severe flooding event”.

The visit was also an opportunity for the QFES to hand over five new light attack vehicles to South Burnett rural brigades.

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said Rural Fire Service Week recognised and celebrated the amazing work of the more than 28,000 RFS volunteers across Queensland.

Commissioner Leach said it was a privilege to recognise their hard work through the presentation of the RFS Week Awards.

“In each of our seven regions, we have a Volunteer of the Year award and a Young Volunteer of the Year award for those who have demonstrated a special contribution to the service,” Commissioner Leach said.
