A woman charged after a fatal crash at Cushnie in 2021 was sentenced to five months’ jail when she appeared in Murgon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Amber Noaleen Mabb, from Springfield, was originally charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm after the incident at the intersection of Chinchilla-Wondai and Cushnie roads on January 15, 2021.

However, she pleaded guilty to downgraded charges of driving without due care and attention causing death or grievous bodily harm.

Police alleged Mabb, who had two passengers in her Toyota Corolla, failed to give way at the intersection, colliding with a dual-cab ute.

A 22-year-old woman who was sitting in the front seat of the Corolla was killed instantly.

The other passenger, a 22-year-old man, and Mabb were treated by QAS paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Mabb was sentenced to five months’ jail, suspended for two years.

She was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
