Police are investigating after a stolen vehicle was brazenly driven past police in Fisher Street, Cherbourg.

A police spokesperson said the incident happened about 8:40pm on March 12.

“Police subsequently activated lights and sirens,” the spokesperson said.

“The stolen vehicle continued to drive in an area where police were aware there was no foot traffic, as officers had walked through the area only 10 minutes earlier.

“The stolen vehicle continued to evade police, making no obvious effort to stop.

“(It) then turned in the direction of an area of the township where police knew there was heavy foot and vehicle traffic. Police conducted a risk assessment and immediately discontinued the attempt to intercept the vehicle.”

Investigations are continuing.

Traffic

  • March 3 – A 75-year-old Cloyna man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 29 charged with drink-driving (0.070 BAC)after police stopped his vehicle on the Bunya Highway about 11:45am. He will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 29.
  • March 5 – A 50-year-old woman was issued with a ticket for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle after police stopped a vehicle on Wondai-Proston Road, Kinleymore, about 2:40pm.
  • March 6 – About 3:10am, a vehicle was intercepted by police on Lamb Street, Murgon. A 19-year-old Rasmussen man was charged with unlicensed driving and will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 29.
  • March 6 – A 35-year-old Cherbourg man was charged with high-range drink driving (0.201 BAC) and unlicensed driving after an incident in Cherbourg. About 4:00am, the man was driving along Murray Road, towards Collins Road when he allegedly reversed the vehicle off the road through the long grass towards a nearby creek. The vehicle came to rest against a tree. He is due to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 29.
  • March 13 – A 20-year-old Murgon man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 29 charged with drink-driving (0.066 BAC) after police stopped a vehicle in Lamb Street, Murgon, at 12:32am.
  • March 13 – At 8.35pm, police intercepted a vehicle on Jefferies Street, Murgon, for the purpose of a licence check. A 31-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with driving without a licence and his number plates were confiscated for seven days. He will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on April 12.
  • March 15 – A 61-year-old Wondai man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on May 10 charged with drug-driving after police stopped his vehicle on Cherbourg Road at 2:10pm.

Drugs

  • March 1 – A 20-year-old Cherbourg man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 29 charged with possessing a drug utensil after police searched a home in Bond Street, Cherbourg, about 8:25am.
  • March 9 – A 24-year-old Wondai man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on April 12 charged with possessing drugs and a drug utensil after police searched a house in Coulsens Road, Wondai, at 3:58pm.

Property

  • March 3 – Police are investigating the theft of a money tin from an address in Broadway Street, Cherbourg about  9:40am.
  • March 8 – Unknown offenders damaged three shopfront windows with an unknown implement in an unoccupied commercial building in Lamb Street, Murgon.
  • March 12 – About 4:00pm, thieves entered a Stephens Street, Murgon, home via an unlocked bedroom window after ripping open a fly screen. Once inside, they searched drawers and cupboards before finding the keys to a vehicle. They then used the keys to steal the victim’s vehicle from the driveway. Investigations are continuing.
  • March 13 – At 8:58pm, vandals threw rocks at a glass sliding door at a business located in Fisher Street, Cherbourg, smashing one pane and damaging a second.
  • March 14 – About 9:40am, a 12-year-old boy allegedly picked up two rocks and threw them at the Cherbourg Police Station building. The boy was disturbed by police and charged with wilful damage of police property. He will appear in court at a later date.
  • March 15 – About 8:45pm, would-be thieves forced their way into a number of storage sheds in Burrows Street, Wondai. They left after being interrupted by security officers.
