The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on the South Burnett Regional Council to waive fees and charges in the wake of the COVID-19 business shutdowns.

“Over the past 24 hours KCCI have been in discussions with Mark Pitt, CEO South Burnett Regional Council, and appropriate managers in relation to fees and charges to different industries throughout our region,” KCCI president Damien Martoo said.

“We have been doing this to help reduce the amount of expenditure for business in our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While there are no current cases in our region at this time, restrictions from State and Federal Governments still apply.

“These restrictions are taking a heavy financial toll on many industries and any relief from fees and charges will be very much appreciated.

“Council has indicated that they will continue to work on a plan in this space but cannot make any further decision until Monday, March 30, due to Local Government elections.

“Rest assured the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry will fight for our members and the wider community to ease the financial pain during these uncertain times.”

Don’t you think your aim should be at the Fed. Govt. and not the South Burnett Regional Council for this commendable aid request?

Really mate, chase the Council and that will put unneeded pressure on the already hard pressed ratepayer, and don’t forget this Council has a lot of ratepayers who can’t pass on the added costs that this would bring.

Life is already bloody tough for the elderly around these parts.

C’mon KCCI, put your proper thinking caps on.
