Six scenes for the new murals at the Murgon Visitor Information Centre have been chosen.

The panels, to be created by local artists, will feature:

  • Boat Mountain
  • Agricultural scene
  • Bjelke-Petersen Dam and activities (fishing)
  • Dairy Heritage Museum;
  • South Burnett Rail Trail; and
  • Wineries

The subjects were approved by the South Burnett Regional Council with the assistance of Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff and project co-ordinator Olivia Everitt.

The community was invited to submit topics for consideration via an online survey.

“It is great to see local artists being engaged in painting the Murgon Visitor Information Centre,” Cr Duff said.

“Thanks to all the residents that contributed to the survey. The survey results played a big role in the final design concepts.”

The artists will be working at the Murgon Visitor Information Centre through early May with the project expected to be finished before the next Murgon Business Development Association meeting on May 10.

“I encourage everyone to be mindful that the murals are the artist’s interpretation and that no matter what the final result, Murgon’s Visitor Information centre and CBD will be a much brighter and better looking environment as a result of this project,” Cr Duff said.

The mural project has been funded through a Regional Arts Fund Quick Response Grant administered by Arts Queensland, South Burnett Regional Council and in-kind contributions from the artists.
