The South Burnett’s 2026 A Grade rugby league competition has hit the pointy end of the season with the major and minor semi-finals scheduled to be played this Saturday at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy.
At 12:30pm, the Murgon Mustangs will face the Wondai Wolves in the sudden-death Minor Semi-Final.
At 2:30pm, the Kingaroy Red Ants – who finished the season on top of the ladder – will play second-placed Blackbutt Timbertowners in the Major Semi-Final to decide who books the first place in the Grand Final.
The loser of the Major Semi-Final will play the winner of the Minor Semi-Final on August 29 in Murgon to determine the second Grand Final spot.
There’ll be pre-game football action happening at T.J. O’Neill from 9:00am with a series of friendlies; entry is $5 and the bar will open at noon.
It’s been a strong year for the Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners who notched up nine wins in their return season, equal to the Murgon Mustangs but just ahead on for-and-against.
Blackbutt’s Daemon Cruise, James Packer and Jackson Mladenovic dominated the try scoring throughout the season.
The Timbertowners’ nearest neighbours, the Nanango Stags – with whom they have shared players in previous seasons – weren’t so lucky in a very competitive 2026, finishing in bottom spot on the table.
The Wondai Wolves finished the season strongly with a 38-1 victory over the Stags last Saturday at Murgon Showgrounds, keeping the Cherbourg Hornets out of the top four.
The A Grade Grand Final will be played at Ian “Bunny” Pearce Oval in Blackbutt on September 5.
