Strong winds caused problems for firefighters called to a grassfire accidentally started near Wondai on Saturday afternoon.

The fire began from a small sedan being driven around the boundary of a farm in Wesslings Road.

Grass around the vehicle suddenly caught fire and the owner of the farm said there was nothing the driver could do to stop the spread of the fire.

The flames advanced quickly, jumping Wesslings Road and heading towards a nearby business, Cleggs Masonry & Building Supplies.

Firefighters stopped the flames at the fenceline of Cleggs Masonry and then began the task of making the fire ground safe so that the strong winds would not whip up another fire.
