Two adults and three children were taken to Kingaroy Hospital after one car allegedly side-swiped another on the Bunya Highway at Crawford on Monday morning.
Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said the occupants of both vehicles were very lucky as the incident could have been much more serious.
“It was very nearly a head-on,” he said.
One of the vehicles, a Commodore, was being driven by a 25-year-old Kingaroy woman who had two young boys as passengers, aged eight months and nearly two. This vehicle was heading towards Crawford.
The other vehicle, a Mitsubishi Magna, was being driven by a 20-year-old woman who had an 11-month-old boy as a passenger. This vehicle was heading towards Kingaroy.
Both drivers apparently attempted to take evasive action but ended up off the highway.
The Commodore crashed into a tree, while the Mitsubishi ended up in a ditch.
The incident occurred about 9:00am.
The Commodore driver suffered serious leg injuries and was later airlifted from Kingaroy Hospital for further treatment.
The other driver and the children were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
