How high can they fly?

July 5, 2016

South Burnett Saints ran away in the second half to record a strong win over the Goondiwindi Hawks in their AFL Darling Downs game played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday.

At the first change, the home team were behind 4.2 (26) to  3.5 (23).

At half-time the margin was even narrower … the Hawks were ahead by just one point, 7.9 (51) to 7.8 (50).

But then the Saints changed gears, kicking three goals to one in the third quarter and an impressive seven goals to three in the last.

This was a big turnaround from last week’s game where they faltered in the last quarter against Warwick.

The final score was South Burnett 18.15 (123) to Goondiwindi’s 11.11 (77).

Saints’ goals were kicked by Carl Stevenson (6), Ty Snow (5), Nathan Trace, Matt Patroni, Joshua Miller, Kieran Askin, David Black, Paul Judge and Adam Bowater.

The Saints’ next game will be against the Highfields Lions at Highfields on Saturday (July 9).

In the women’s competition, the Goondiwindi Hawks made short work of the Saints on Saturday.

The final score was 36.13 (229) to 2.0 (12).

The Saints women’s team has a bye next weekend.

The Hawks tested the Saints throughout the game, but the home team was in charge at the final siren
