Citizen Kane ... a classic film for opening day at Ringsfield

November 2, 2015

The gala opening of the new Ringsfield Film Society movie theatre is happening this Sunday (November 8).

The opening feature is a classic Hollywood film by Orson Welles that everyone should see at least twice in their lifetime!

“Citizen Kane” was made in 1941 but don’t let the date put you off … it has a rating of 100 per cent on movie ratings website Rotten Tomatoes (the classic Star Wars film only rates 94 per cent in comparison).

And the description from Wikipedia is also gushing:

“Nominated for Academy Awards in nine categories … considered by many critics, filmmakers, and fans to be the greatest film ever made, Citizen Kane was voted the greatest film of all time in five consecutive Sight & Sound polls of critics … it topped the American Film Institute’s “100 Years … 100 Movies” list in 1998, as well as AFI’s 2007 update. Citizen Kane is particularly praised for its cinematography, music, and narrative structure, which were innovative for its time.”

It tells the tale of a ruthless publishing tycoon’s rise and fall as his idealism gives way to a pursuit of power.

The Ringsfield Film Society movie theatre is located inside the Ringsfield Church building.

The movie is supplied by the National Film & Sound Archive and will be introduced by Nanango’s “Bill Collins” (ie. Peter Ainslie)

Tea / coffee and scones will be available for $8.

The movie will start at 2:30pm (BYO cushion)

For more information, visit the Ringsfield Film Society Facebook page or phone Louise Kenny on (07) 4163-1549.

Footnote: The Old Church at Ringsfield is still available for hire for functions as the theatre equipment is stowed away after use.
