Nanango’s fun-filled annual tribute to 1950s and 1960s rock’n’roll will swing into action this weekend at the Nanango Showgrounds … and organisers promise The Waterhole Rocks’ fourth outing will be the best yet.

The Waterhole Rocks is a rock’n’roll campout weekend.

As well as live music and classic rock & roll dancing, there’ll also be a car show, vintage caravans, dancing lessons and driving games to ensure there’s something to keep every bodgie (and widgie) happy.

This year the festival will be quietly launched with a camp oven dinner for early birds at the Nanango Showgrounds on Thursday night, October 15. Peter Wisman will be playing “50’s & 60’s Memories”.

Bookings for the dinner are essential, and can be made by phoning the Nanango Show Society on (07) 4163-1273.

On Friday, the Festival will get underway in earnest, with stallholders setting up their tents in the Showgrounds throughout the morning and entertainers Bobby Ricks, Jeff Hancox and Heartbeat taking to the stage in the afternoon while dancers practice on the Heritage Bank Nanango Rock & Roll dance floor.

Then on Friday night at 6:30pm, the action will move up several notches when rock & roll band Old45s pump out red hot dance numbers until late.

On Saturday – the Festival’s main day – Bobby Ricks, Jeff Hancox and Heartbeat will keep the main stage humming all day while visitors take part in (or just sit back and enjoy) a Fashion Competition and a Mystery Cruise.

They can also browse the trade stalls selling everything from old vinyl LPs to rare memorabilia, try out some dance lessons or enjoy the grass driving games that will take place in the main show ring.

On Saturday night, the featured band is The Rockin Bodgies, and they’ll keep everyone entertained until late into the evening.

The Festival will wind down on Sunday, but keen rockers will still be able to enjoy Jeff Hancox and Pobblebonk (aka Tina and Joe) on the main stage in the morning; the presentation of awards for the hot rod show and shine; and then Peter Wisman’s 50s and 60s Memories show in the afternoon.

A canteen and bar will be operating throughout the weekend.

A full Festival pass is $25 or daily passes are available for $15 (Friday) and $15 (Saturday). Sunday is completely free.

Powered and unpowered camping sites will also be available in the grounds for visitors who want to camp over.

Members of the TT Rockers dance club travelled from Tweed Heads last year to dance the night away in full rock & roll style on the Heritage Bank Nanango Rock & Roll dance floor
Leading Gold Coast rock ‘n’ roll band Catfish & The Dee-Jays were the headline act at the first Festival; this year there’ll be two – Old45s on Friday night and The Rockin Bodgies on Saturday
