Nanango Show Society president Les Schloss couldn’t be happier with this year’s show … the gate was well up, the weather was just brilliant, in fact “you just couldn’t wish for a better day”.

Les said entries in the Stud Beef competition were strong, and the Prime Beef competition – which hasn’t be held for two years because of the weather conditions – was also well supported.

Numbers were also up in the Dairy Cattle, pavilion entries and the farm produce was “really good”.

Les said a feature of this show was the trotting which returned to the showground ring after a break of 14 years.

“We held five trotting races,” he said. “They were proper races, organised by Queensland Harness Racing, and the crowd loved it, especially the kids.”

Les said the committee had aimed for a family-oriented Nanango Show and it had worked out really well.

Popular were the death-defying bike stunts by El Jay Freestyle Entertainment, and the rodeo drew good a crowd – and more entries than it has had for quite a while.

The Young Judges and Young Handlers competition was held on Friday night. An amazing 70 entrants were received … all keen to improve their cattle knowledge.

Les said the South Burnett Sub-Chamber Finals will be now hosted at Nanango on July 11 in conjunction with the annual Lifestyle Show which will also feature the Dexter Annual Breed Show and a team penning competition.

Footnote: Winners of the Sausage King competition were Murgon’s Top of the Town Meat Hall (pork), Nanango Butchery (beef) and Frohlie’s Meats in Yarraman (gourmet).
