A highlight of the South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show weekend was the massive King Of The Park weekend at Manar Park.

By 6:00pm on Saturday, Manar Park co-owner Robyn Ellis said 947 people had passed through the gates … with more still coming.

As well as having the opportunity of putting their own motorbikes and quad bikes through their paces, the big attraction for visitors was the King Of The Park challenge.

Based on the Californian “King Of The Hammers”, the challenge was  a mixture of desert-style racing and rock-crawling over a marked out course.

This is the second year that it has been run at Manar Park.

The Ultra 4 vehicles used in America have been adapted for Australian conditions and are known as “Aust 4s”.

Technically, they can reach speeds of up to 200km/h but can’t achieve that on Manar Park’s challenging course.

The King Of The Park had two categories racing:  Winch / Tuff Trucks  and Aust 4 / Rock Crawlers.

The winners were the teams that completed the most laps … not as easy as it sounds with the course testing equipment to the limit.

Competition winners were:  Winch / Tuff Trucks – Matt Hills; and Aust 4 / Rock Crawlers – Remy Lowson

Brett and Mitchell Thorpe, from Nitto Tires,  provided the $5000 prize money for the King Of the Park

Harley was keeping a close eye on the park from the back seat of the Manar Park ATV

Manar Park co-owner David Laidler was kept busy with all the visitors to the park

Lee Mitchell and TJ Craig, from Gympie, were having fun with their enduro bikes

Naomi Lankowski and Rhett, 11 months, from Roadvale, with Cathie Lohse, Gympie
Visitors also took the opportunity to test their quad bikes on Manar Park’s fast laps track
