Three South Burnett rural firefighters were thanked for their especially diligent volunteer service at a ceremony in Kingaroy on Saturday.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Rural Operations Director Gary Seaman, from district headquarters at Caloundra, presented the trio with Diligent and Ethical Service medals.

He said volunteers had to have at least 10 years’ service to be eligible to receive the award, however it was not simply a reward for long service.

Recipients are nominated by their colleagues and must have displayed more than just service.

“They must have gone above what it is to be a member of a rural fire brigade,” Mr Seaman said.

The medals were presented to James Barclay (who volunteered at Ellesmere before joining Maidenwell brigade – total service about 25 years), and Ralph Tennant Taromeo – 19 years) and Russell French (Taromeo – 24 years).

The ceremony, at the Tobruk Room in the Kingaroy RSL, was made in front of colleagues who had gathered to attend a Crew Leader Course and a Secretary / Treasurer workshop.
