2023 Kingaroy Show

The first day of the two-day 2023 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am until late tonight. In addition to the usual big range of horse, cattle and equestrian events, this year's Show will also feature Tractor Pulls; a Ute Show; a Woodchops; a Dog Show; the Aussie FMX Freestyle Motocross Show; vintage machinery; a big display of caged birds; specialty food vans; and a lot more besides. There'll also be a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region. The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm. There'll also be a Mister Minit Giant Fireworks Show around 7:30pm that will light up the night sky. Single day tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 12-17 and pensioners (under-12s can get in for free if accompanied by a paying adult). 101st Burrandowan Picnic Races
The Burrandowan Picnic Races will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning until very late tonight. The first race in this year's five-race program will leave the barriers at 1:35pm and there'll also be a Fashions on the Field competition with prizes; a licensed bar operating from 11:00am to 11:00pm; country food available all day from the race club's cafe; other food stalls in the grounds; and the traditional pit-fired barbecues at night (BYO plate and cutlery) followed by entertainment from a local band. There'll also be picnic hampers available for pick-up, but you'll need to book these in advance. Pursers Coaches will be running buses from Kingaroy at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm (returning at 6:30pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm) for $20 one way or $40 return - phone (07) 4168-5133 for details and bookings. Entry to this year's meeting is $25 per head and tickets can be booked online. NB. Free overnight camping is available on Saturday night only (small tents and swags only, no caravans or camper trailers). There's also no ATMs or mobile phone reception on site, so bring cash.
Big Rosella Field Days - Woolooga
Petersens Farm at 2 Reilly Road in Woolooga will be hosting their annual Field Days between 9:00am and 3:00pm today and tomorrow. This event - formerly known as the Big Rosella Festival - is now in its 8th year and it features local foods, farm tours, artisan and boutique markets, live music, art, cooking and cocktail demos from chefs and much more. Petersens Farm are Australia's biggest producers of the quirky, hot-pink fruit (also known as wild hibiscus) and there’s something for everyone at this event from those who fondly remember their grandmother’s rosella jam from long ago to avid foodies keen on paddock-to-plate dining and the resurgence of rosellas as a gourmet superfood. Yarraman Fruit & Vegie Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today - but today, they'll only have Neil The Fruit Man (who is returning from vacation). The full markets are now held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturday each month and they feature Neil's Fruits & Vegies, trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Swizzle Duo - Kingaroy

Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Allan Stainer - Yarraman

Pig On A Spit Night - Wooroolin
The Grand Hotel on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin will be holding a Pig On A Spit Night from 5:30pm until late this evening. Apart from a great roast pork meal there'll also be a Lucky Door, raffles and live entertainment. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on a variety of projects and new members are always welcome.
DJ Damo - Kingaroy

Rugby Union - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Thrashers will be playing their first home game of the season at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, this afternoon. They will be taking on the Goondiwindi Emus from 1:30pm. This game will be followed at 3:00pm by a Darling Downs competition A Grade match between the Emus and the USQ Saints. There will be a bar and barbecue at the game but no EFTPOS facilities.
Rugby League - Blackbutt & Nanango
Junior rugby league games will be played at Ian "Bunny" Pearce Oval in Blackbutt today: Under 6s and Under 8s from 8:00am, Under 10s from 9:40am and Under 12s from 12:00 noon. Two Under 14s games will be played at Fred Kassulke Oval in Nanango: Nanango v Chinchilla at 2:00pm; and Cherbourg v Kingaroy at 3:00pm. There are no A Grade games scheduled for this weekend.

The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join.
