Garage & Car Boot Sale - Kingaroy
- Kingaroy's Men's Shed will be holding a giant Garage & Car Boot Sale outside their shed in Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 8:00am to around 12:00 noon today as a fundraiser to help replace tools and equipment stolen in April by thieves. Murgon Men's Shed
- The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on a variety of projects and new members are always welcome.
Variety Children's Charity Pig Races - Linville
- The Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville will be holding the inaugural Variety Children's Charity Pig Races at the rear of the hotel today. Apart from all the fun of pig racing (and that's always a lot of fun for the $10 entry fee that will go to the Variety Club), the event will feature raffles, auctions and sweeps plus live music after the racing until late into the night. The first pig race will get underway at 12:00 noon and the hotel's kitchen will be open for lunch and dinner. There's also accommodation available at the pub (booking advisable) or free camping across the road at the Linville railhead if you want to stay overnight. More details? Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets - now held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturdays of each month - feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Spanish Night - Kilkivan
- The Kilkivan Hotel in Bligh Street, Kilkivan will be running a Spanish Night from 5:00pm until late this evening in the saloon bar. For $45 per head, guests can enjoy great tapas platters and entertainment, plus a few surprises. Bookings are essential, though, to secure a seat: 0447-872-028.
Tiaras At The Palace & The Pram - Nanango
- The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting their fourth performance of two new one act plays - Tiaras At The Palace and The Pram - at the Nanango Playhouse on the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 7:00pm this evening to help celebrate Nanango's 175th anniversary on June 10. Tiaras At The Palace is written by locals Denise Smith, Rae Burke and Janet Korknobel and tells the story of a woman who journeys from youth to a lady of the town at the Palace Hotel, set against a background of historical events, while "The Pram" by Hugh O'Brien tells the story of a baby abducted from a park near Nanango Railway Station in 1919, a mystery solved 50 years later by an amateur detective. Tickets to the show are $25 (or $20 for concessions) and can be booked online.
Mud Women & Mochaccinos - Proston
- A Mud Women & Mochaccinos get-together will be held at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 10:00am to 12:00 noon today. The event - jointly organised by the South Burnett Regional Council and the Federal Government - is designed to bring women, clay and magic together and it's free, but to help plan the catering an RSVP is required. Twilight Markets - Wondai
- The Wondai Show Society and Wondai Wolves will be running their quarterly Twilight Markets at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of the CBD from 3:00pm to 8:00pm this evening. The markets feature a wide range of bespoke and artisan goods and foodstuffs, and food and desserts will be available on the grounds. There's no admission and everyone is welcome!
South Burnett Mental Health Golf Challenge - Kumbia
- The second round of the South Burnett Mental Health Golf Challenge will be played at the Kumbia Golf Club at 8:00am this morning. The Challenge aims to raise funds to assist the region's mental health services and rounds will be played all around the region between today and mid-October. Today's play will take the form of a three-person ambrose and the cost (which includes green fees and lunch) is $90 per team. Chamber Orchestra Concert - Kumbia
- The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be presenting a Chamber Orchestra Concert featuring soloist Sue-Ellen Paulsen at Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia at 6:00pm this evening. The $30 admission includes a dinner of hot and cold finger foods and beer, wine and soft drinks will all be available for purchase on site. Tickets can be booked online or obtained over the counter at Kingaroy Office Central, and a limited number will be available at the door unless sold out.
Radnor Hotel Golf Day - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt Golf Club at 51 Langton Road in Blackbutt will be hosting the annual Radnor Hotel Golf Day today. This is a three person ambrose (beginners are welcome!) and it offers 14 individual prizes, including your own weight in beer for one lucky competitor. 4th Annual Drive-In Movie Night - Kingaroy
- Taabinga State School P&C will be holding their 4th Annual Drive-In Movie Night at the Kingaroy Machinery Club's grounds at Geoff Raph Drive near Kingaroy Airport from 4:30pm this evening. The event will screen the multi-award winning animated classic The Bad Guys (rated PG) at 5:30pm, followed by the popular adventure comedy Jurassic World (rated PG) at 7:45pm. Family admission - with up to six people per car - is just $40 per car for either movie (or $60 per car for a double movie deal), but tickets must be booked online in advance before 4:00pm Saturday. Munchies and dagwood dogs can be pre-ordered when you book your tickets or purchased on-site, and all profits from the evening go to the school's P&C projects. Everyone is welcome!
Goomeri Pumpkin Party
- The Goomeri Caravan and Bush Camp will be marking the Goomeri Pumpkin Festiavl (which is taking a break this year) with a Goomeri Pumpkin Party tonight and tomorrow night with live music, a wood-fired pizza truck, coffee vans, pumpkin scones and jam and lots of fun activities for little kids. Powerlink Community Drop-In Session - Kilkivan
- Powerlink - who are surveying routes for new power lines to deliver energy from the Borumba Dam Pumped Hydro project to Woolooga West will be holding a Community Drop-In Session at Kilkivan Public Hall in Bligh Street, Kilkivan from 9:00am to 12:00 noon this morning to answer the questions and/or concerns of residents. - The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy
- Rugby league fans should head to T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today for the latest junior and senior games of the season. U6s will play on the back field from 8:00am to 11:20am, and U8s in the same back field from 8:00am to 9:40am, followed by U10s from 10:30am to 1:50pm. U12s, meanwhile, will play on the main field from 8:00am to noon. These games will be followed by an U14s clash between Kingaroy and Cherbourg at 12:10pm, then an U15s match between South Burnett and Brothers at 1:10pm, followed by U16s (South Burnett vs Brothers) at 2:20pm and then an U17s match between Brothers and the Dalby Devils at 3:30pm. The first A-grade match of the day - between Kingaroy's Red Ants and Cherbourg's Hornets - will start at 4:45pm, and this will be followed by a second A-grade match between Murgon and Wondai at 6:30pm. A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds and admission is $2 until 11:00am, then $5 after 11:00am (but bring cash - there's no EFTPOS at the gate)
Wondai Country Markets
- The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed). Nanango Mini Markets
- The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1.20 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
- The Maidenwell Hotel's popular monthly Pig On A Spit Night will be running from 2:00pm this afternoon through until late this evening. A live band will be performing on the hotel's deck from 6:00pm (when dinner starts), and follow through until late. In between, guests can get stuck into more pork than they can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only). Diva At The Dairy - Sandy Ridges
- Goomeri singer Louise Winton and her leading man, Graham Mitchell, will be performing a musical tapestry of duets from stage and screen at Sandy Ridges Farm, 2172 Burnett Highway (west of Goomeri) from 3:30pm to 6:00pm this afternoon. Their show will be presented inside a gothic style marquee, adorned with twinkling fairy lights that will come on as the sun sets behind the trees. Guests will be seated at long tables that will be laden with gourmet grazing platters. There will also be a coffee van available, selling all non alcoholic drinks and desserts (but BYO if you prefer other refreshments - and bring cash anyway, because there's no EFTPOS at the farm). There is going to be a surprise international guest performing during interval. Tickets are available at the door.
Jimeoin - Kingaroy
- Popular Irish comedian Jimeoin will be performing his one-man show "The Craic" at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy tonight as part of a national tour. The show starts at 7:30pm with a 20 minute perfornce from fellow comedian Ting Lim, followed by Jimeoin's 75 minute performance at 8:10pm. Tickets are $59.90 for adults and $54.90 for concessions and can be booked online.
