2023 Blackbutt ShowThe 89th annual Blackbutt Show will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 5:30am this morning (when the gates open) until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a full range of horse events (anything from led breed and ridden breed through to hacks and rider classes). There'll also be a big roll-up of cattle and poultry along with sub-chamber finals of the Young Judges, Handlers and Paraders competitions; the popular woodchop and chainsawing competitions; lots of ring events; a Dog Show; pony rides; and plenty of fun for children including face painting, a baby animal farm, a magician and a puppet show. As usual the Show will also feature a great spread of pavilion exhibits; sideshow alley; showbags; and trade displays. And after dark there'll also be a fireworks display at 8:00pm, followed by live entertainment until 11:00pm. Nanango Autumn Race Meeting
- The Nanango Race Club will be holding its Autumn Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway in Racecourse Road just south of Nanango from 10:00am to about 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "Colours Of Autumn" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Autumn outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also plenty of undercover seating and lots of parking on course. The Autumn meeting is always popular and patrons are welcome to picnic on the lawns and even bring their own marquee if they like. Buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the rear of Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. This will be a bumper 7 race meeting and the first race will leave the barriers around 12:39pm, but gates will open earlier so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Saturday Rugby League - Murgon
- Murgon Mustangs are hosting this weekend’s rugby league games at Murgon Sportsground as part of the SBRL’s annual Domestic Violence Awareness round. As well as junior and senior games, there'll be stalls, activities, entertainment and free snow cones for the kids. Under 6s-12s will play round robin matches across seven fields, with games beginning at 8:00am. At 11:00am, Cherbourg will take on Nanango in an U14s game, followed by another U14s game at noon between Kingaroy and Murgon. At 1:45pm, the South Burnett Eagles U18s will face Across The Waves. This will be followed by two A Grade games. At 3:15pm, Murgon will play Cherbourg, followed at 5:00pm by Kingaroy v Wondai. The day will be topped off by an A Grade Women's game between the two local teams in the Wide Bay competition, Cherbourg and Wondai.
Tiaras At The Palace & The Pram - Nanango
- The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting their second and third performances of two new one act plays - Tiaras At The Palace and The Pram - at the Nanango Playhouse on the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 2:00pm and again at 7:00pm this afternoon and evening to help celebrate Nanango's 175th anniversary on June 10. Tiaras At The Palace is written by locals Denise Smith, Rae Burke and Janet Korknobel and tells the story of a woman who journeys from youth to a lady of the town at the Palace Hotel, set against a background of historical events, while "The Pram" by Hugh O'Brien tells the story of a baby abducted from a park near Nanango Railway Station in 1919, a mystery solved 50 years later by an amateur detective. Tickets to the show are $25 (or $20 for concessions) and can be booked online. Further performances will be held next Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27.
Bogan Bingo - Nanango
- St Patricks School will be holding a Bogan Bingo Night at the school's hall at 16 Alfred Street, Nanango from 5:30pm (eyes down at 6:00pm) to around 9:30pm tonight as a fundraiser for the Nanango Local Ambulance Committee. Participants at this popular annual event are encouraged to dress up in their best bogan outfits to win great cash prizes, and are also welcome to BYO drinks and nibbles. Additionally - for $40 - you can purchase a Bogan Bundle that includes 10 bingo game sheets, 5 cent auction tickets, 5 raffle tickets, a Lucky Door ticket and a bingo pen to tot up all your winnings. Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets - now held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturdays of each month - feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Mud Women & Mochaccinos
- A Mud Women & Mochaccinos get-together will be held in the Glendon Street Forecourt in Kingaroy from 10:00am to 12:00 noon today. The event - jointly organised by the South Burnett Regional Council and the Federal Government - is designed to bring women, clay and magic together and it's free, but to help plan the catering an RSVP is required. - The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on a variety of projects and new members are always welcome.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
- The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! - The monthly Proston Country Markets - organised by the Proston Show Society and held on the 3rd Saturday of each month - will be running at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 8:00am to around noon this morning. Festival Of The Dams - BP Dam
- The first day of the weekend-long Festival Of The Dams fishing competition will be held at BP Dam north of Murgon from 7:00am onwards today. Up to 40 teams will be competing for prizes in the two-day event, but there's plenty of fun to be had for spectators too, with markets and food vans opening from breakfast onwards; live music; children's activities; lots of raffles; and lunches and dinners available as well. The festival is being sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council and inexpensive caravan and camping sites and cabins can be booked from the Yallakool Tourist Park. Moore Hall Markets
- The monthly Moore Markets will be held outside the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore from 8:00 to around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets feature hand painted china; hand made jewellery; hand crafted dolls; quilts; biscuit tin banjos; jade; wooden toys; delightful handmade bags; plants; bric-a-brac; antiques and collectables; tea cosies; baby clothes; tea towels; candles; soaps; cakes; jams and pickles, and more.
