QCWA Hivesville Mother's Day Cent Sale
The Hivesville QCWA will be holding their popular annual Mother's Day Cent Sale at the Hivesville QCWA Rooms at 12 Main Street, Hivesville from 12:30pm today (sale starts at 1:00pm). Entry is just $5.00 and it includes a lucky door ticket plus a fabulous afternoon tea. There'll also be good prizes to be won and a raffle - just perfect if you want to pick up a present for mum tomorrow! Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning as part of today's Wooroolin celebrations (see entry elsewhere on this page). The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Dance - Inverlaw Hall
An old time and new vogue dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Chattanooga and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
Boots & Bulldust will be running bingo matches at the Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy from 6:30pm this evening (eyes down at 7:00pm) as a charity fundraiser. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Pig Out Night With Merv - Yarraman
Hungry? The Royal Hotel on the D'Aguilar Highway at Yarraman will be hosting their monthly Pig Out Night from 6:00pm to 7:30pm this evening, followed by live music from Merv (part of Just Me) that will run until late. For just $20 per head for adults (or $15 for children aged 12-16) guests can tuck into a buffet of spit-roasted pork and chicken along with roast vegies, gravy, applesauce and dessert. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on a variety of projects and new members are always welcome.
Kumbia Community Markets
The monthly Kumbia Community Markets will be running at the Kumbia Memorial Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia from 7:00am to around noon this morning (set-up is from 6:00am). The markets run on the second Saturday of every month and feature bric-a-brac, crafts, food and live entertainment. New stallholders are always welcome, too (stall fees are just $11 per site).
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets - now held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturdays of each month - feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Kingaroy Men's Shed
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Saturday Rugby League - Wondai
NB. UPDATED GAME TIMES. The second round of the South Burnett's A-grade competition will be played at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway, Wondai today, along with a full round of junior and women's matches. The action will get underway at 9:40am when the South Burnett's U35kg side play the Wondai Wolves, followed at 12:10pm with an U14s game between Murgon and Nanango. At 1:15pm, the U16s women will play (Wondai v Bundaberg). At 2:30pm in A-grade men's matches, the Wondai Wolves will play Cherbourg's Hornets, followed by a clash between Murgon Mustangs and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 4:00pm. A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome at all matches.
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints AFL teams will be marking Brooksy's Day today in honour of former player Ben Brooks who died of cancer in 2022. Ben's parents will be presenting medals to the senior and junior player at today's round who they think displays “courage, determination and a never-give-up attitude”. The action will get underway at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 12:30pm when the Saints U14s take on Coolaroo. This will be followed at 2:30pm by a men's game between the Saints and Warwick Redbacks (Saints women have a bye this week). A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome at all matches.
Amanda Sempf - Linville
Well-known Blackbutt country musician Amanda Sempf will be performing over lunch at the Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville from 11:30am to 3:30pm this afternoon. The hotel's kitchen will be open for lunch, dinner and snacks and if you want to stay over, the pub now has accommodation available. Community Consultation - Nanango
South Burnett Regional Council Staff, Councillors and community engagement representatives will be at the Nanango parkrun from 7:00am today to seek community input relating to vegetation at the Ros Gregor Walking Track. Council has become aware of some concerns relating to the vegetation and has received requests to maintain the area instead as mowed parkland. The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Parkrun - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online (it's officially called the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail parkrun) and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Mr Q - Kingaroy
The full Mr Q will be performing in the Tobruk Room at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until around 11:00pm tonight. Mr Q are the South Burnett's favourite party band and tonight will be the first time the full ensemble has gotten together at Kingaroy RSL since March this year. Mothers Day Mini Market - Blackbutt
Blackbutt-Yarraman QCWA in conjunction with the Radnor Hotel will be running a Mini Market at their rooms in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 8:30am this morning for the benefit of anyone looking for gifts for Mothers Day (ie tomorrow). In addition to great gifts and a $100 money board, the Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions will be running a sausage sizzle and branch members will be on hand to serve up tea and/or coffee. Everyone is welcome and there's no admission.
