Nanango Cup Race Meeting
- The Nanango Race Club will be running their first meeting of the new racing year - the Nanango Cup - at the Lee Park Racecourse from 10:00am today. Today's meeting will feature seven races, with the first race leaving the barriers around 12:15pm. Other features today will be the annual Blessing Of The Jockeys ceremony and the announcement of Lee Park's Trainer, Jockey and Horse Of The Year premierships. The meeting will have a Classic Cup fashion theme. This meeting is always one of the biggest of the year. Other popular features of the Lee Park course such as a bar, barbecue and canteen will also be in operation. Free buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street (noon) and Scotts Car Park in Nanango (12:30pm). Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under 15s are free). Everyone is welcome!
Four Club Rally - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Antique Car Club is hosting visiting car clubs from the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast and Gympie this weekend in the South Burnett. From 9:30am to 11:30am today, club members will have their vehicles on display on vacant land in Cornish Street, Kingaroy. Everyone is invited to come on down and take a look!
Yarraman Festival
- The Yarraman Festival will be back bigger than ever from 10:00am to 4:00pm today in Station Park (Millar Street) to welcome in the 260 cyclists taking part in the annual Brisbane Valley Rail Trail "Festival of Cycling". There'll be food stalls, music, puppy cuddling (!), a free petting zoo for the kids, lawn games and free face painting (10:00am to noon). Everyone has been invited to come on down for a morning and afternoon of community fun!
29th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
- The 29th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:00pm (for a 6:30pm start) until late tonight. This event - a major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of six compete for great cash prizes. As usual, guests at this year's Brain Drain are encouraged to dress to this year's theme (Go For Gold - Brain Drain Olympics) to be in the running for great prizes. There'll also be prizes for round winners, the best dressed team, the best team name as well as the overall winners. with the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles. Nibbles, a light meal and dessert will be provided as well as tea and coffee. Soft drinks and water will be for sale (BYO alcohol). Admission is $240 per table of six. There'll also be a bus running from Kingaroy to Kumbia, but you'll need to book to reserve a place.
Bare Foot Bowls - Kingaroy
- A fun afternoon of Bare Foot Bowls will be happening at the Kingaroy Bowls Club from 1:00pm to 4:00pm today. The afternoon is a fundraiser for the Ride 4 Relay team in this year's Relay For Life.
Cost is $15 per head but children under 12 are free. Afternoon tea is included and the bar will be open. Form a team of four or just come along and join in the fun. More info? Phone Jason on 0455-896-749.
Saturday Rugby League - Nanango
- South Burnett Rugby League junior and senior games will be played today at Fred Kassulke Oval in Nanango. Junior games (Under 6s to Under 12s) will get under way at 8:00am. At 4:00pm, the first of two A Grade games will be played, between Nanango and Wondai, followed at 5:45pm by Cherbourg v Kingaroy.
Murgon Men's Shed
- The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Nanango Country Markets
- The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Kingaroy Men's Shed
- The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Sled Dog Racing Weekend - Benarkin
- Members of Sled Dog Racing Queensland will be holding a race meeting at Forest Road in the Benarkin State Forest this weekend to race sled dogs. Racing will take place this afternoon and early tomorrow morning across a range of events, with most SDRQ members will be camping at the Settlers Rest area in Benarkin to take advantage of its toilets and showers. Spectators are very welcome to come and watch the dogs race and/or find out more information about this unusual club's activities.
Nanango Men's Shed
- The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around 12:30pm today for its regular Saturday get-together. Railway Parkrun - Proston
- The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Parkrun - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join.
