Kingaroy Baconfest
- The first full day of the Kingaroy Baconfest will be held in and around Kingaroy today, kicking off at 10:00am and running across five stages in Glendon Street and nearby O'Neill Square until around 10:30pm tonight. Today, the main stage in the Town Hall forecourt will host celebrity chefs Matt Golinski and Dan & Steph interspersed with chats hosted by Carl Rackemann and heats of the bacon eating contest. Meanwhile, the Sunpork Stage will host a Bacon Eating Contest, a Miss Baconfest Pinup Pageant, performances by the Ally Walker Dance Academy and La Creme Dance Academy and Best Beard and Best-Dressed competitions along with awards for the Sunpork Smoke-Off, while the Bacon Barn Stage will host activities by (and for) younger audiences. As usual, there'll also be lots of street vendors and market stalls in the festival grounds. Baconfest will conclude tomorrow with a ticketed Long Table Breakfast and a second day of markets, cooking demonstrations and general entertainment running from 10:00am to 3:30pm. Admission to this year's Baconfest is $15 per day for adults (concessions, weekend passes and family passes are also available). You can get the full program of events from the Baconfest website.
Scots In The Bush Festival - Boondooma
- The fourth day of this year's Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival - the largest of its kind in Queensland - features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and much more! Special guests this year include Australian Celtic Women, Brian Letton, Celtic Cross Over, Clyde Cameron, Dr Heather Clarke (Ceilidh), the Hervey Bay Pipe Band, >B>Ishka Celtic Music, the Maryborough Musos Ukulele, the Moreton Celtic Fiddle Club, Mouldy Haggis, the Murrumba Pipes and Drums, the Noosa & District Pipe Band, Rum City Highland Dancers, Tom Kimmet, the Toowoomba Caledonian Society Pipe Band, Vince Pagett and more. A licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping. During the event there'll also be Highland games, a Blessing Of The Haggis and a big Celtic market. Tickets for the full festival are $50 per head for adults (which includes a bush camping site) but you can just buy a day ticket if you prefer (children under 15 are free). Saturday Rugby League
- Rugby League fans should head to Fred Kassulke Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD today for a slew of important junior and senior matches. The action will get underway at 10:00am with an U122s match between Blackbutt and Murgon Blue, followed at <10:L50am with an U15s match between Wondai and Kingaroy White. These will be followed at 11:40am with an U12s clash between Nanango and Kingaroy Red, and then a second U12s match at 12:30pm between Murgon Yellow and Cherbourg. at 12:30pm, the action will step up a level with the U14s Preliminary Final between the Chinchilla Bulldogs and Cherbourg Hornets, which will be followed by the A-grade Preliminary Final between Cherbourg Hornets and Murgon Mustangs at 3:00pm. A canteen and (after the juniors finish, a bar) will be operating in the grounds and spectators are most welcome,
Proston Community Markets
- The monthly Proston Community Markets - organised by the Proston Show Society and held on the 3rd Saturday of each month - will be running outside the QCWA Rooms at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 8:00am to around noon this morning. Stalls feature everything from craftwork to baked goods and bric-a-brac are are always fun to browse. There'll also be a great BBQ breakfast and Devonshire morning teas available, as well as a large fruit and veggie tray raffle. Nanango Men's Shed
- The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around 12:30pm today for its regular Saturday get-together. Moore Hall Markets
- The monthly Moore Markets will be held outside the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon today. The markets are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month and feature hand painted china; hand made jewellery; hand crafted dolls; quilts; biscuit tin banjos; jade; wooden toys; delightful handmade bags; plants; bric-a-brac; antiques and collectables; tea cosies; baby clothes; tea towels; candles; soaps; cakes; jams and pickles, and more. There's also great brekkies available inside the Hall, and everyone is welcome!
Murgon Men's Shed
- The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Byte Nite - Murgon
- The South Burnett PCYC at 40 Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding a free Byte Night of fun and games for 12 to 18-year-olds between 6:00pm and 9:00pm this evening. Kingaroy Men's Shed
- The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
- The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Lyle Vidler Oval (for this week only) in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome.
Saturday Night Bingo - Kilkivan
- Bingo games will be played at the Kilkivan Bowls Club in Crescent Street, Kilkivan from 5:00pm tonight (eyes down at 6:00pm). There'll be 10 games on offer with great prizes - including a $650 jackpot - and play books are just $10 each. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase, and there'll be great raffle prizes to win as well. Tonight's games are a fundraiser for the Rise & Shine Aging-In-Place project and everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets are held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturday each month and feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and a coffee van. Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Parkrun - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Qld Junior Motorcycle Championships
- CANCELLED: The Queensland U16 125cc solos and best pair championships - hosted by the Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club - were due to be held in Kingaroy today, but the event has had to be cancelled due to the weather. A new date for the championships will be announced in due course.
