2022 Wondai Country Running Festival

The first day of the weekend-long, family friendly Wondai Country Running Festival will be held in and around Wondai's CBD and along the South Burnett Rail Trail today. The festival will kick off early at 7:00am and will incorporate markets (see entry below), several Fun Runs/Walks, and two McEuen Forest Trail Runs this afternoon. There'll also be a full day of live music in Coronation Park along with a bumper Wondai Markets, capped off by a licensed Wondai Country Dinner at Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street that will get underway around 5:45pm tonight. Tomorrow the Festival will conclude with a 10km Rail Trail run, a half marathon and a full 42km marathon along the South Burnett Rail Trail. More than 500 runners have alrfeady registered to take part in this year's festival and you can get the complete program on the Festival's website.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed) and you can obtain more details by phoning the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on (07) 4168-5926.
Nanango Winter Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Winter Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. The race club's popular licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; seating will be available undercover or outdoors on the lawn; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote in the betting ring to take your wagers, along with the indoor race club canteen. The meeting's fashion theme will be "Winter Styles" and guests who dress to it can be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge spot prizes. This will be a 6 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:10pm but gates will open at 11:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Junior Motorcycle Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding a Club Day on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this morning, with the Avoca Street gates opening at 8:00am and racing from around 9:00am until this afternoon. The day's races will kick off with the Barry Stead Memorial, followed by a Club Day in the afternoon. The club is for young motorcycle riders aged 4 to 16 and spectators are very welcome. Stage, Screen And Classic Rock - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Pop Orchestra will be performing a Stage, Screen And Classic Rock concert at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 3:00pm this afternoon, followed by an afternoon tea. Tickets can be booked online.
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1.20 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit afternoon and evening from 2:00pm until late tonight (live music starts at 2:00pm and dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). Apart from live entertainment and lots of cold beer, there'll also be more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), along with Little Butcher meat tray raffles to raise funds for Tanduringie State School. Railway Parkrun - Proston
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.

Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Cardi Gras - Proston
The Cardi Gras car show, swap meet, markets and concert will be running at the Proston Showgrounds at 41 Proston-Boondooma Road from 12:00 noon to 9:00pm tonight. The Car Show will offer trophies for the Best Vehicle In Show, Best Hot Rod, Best Holden, Best Ford, Best Classic Car, Best Muscle Car, Best Club Display and a people's choice award. Car registration is $10 and admission to view the entries is $10 for adults or $5 for concessions. There'll also be market, swap and food stalls to browse (for free!) and a concert in the evening by the The RockNRolla Billys with $15 admission for adults and $7.50 for children. The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Saturday Night Football
The local senior soccer competition will conclude its latest round at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy tonight. In the men's division, Kingaroy Islanders will take on Barambah at 6:30pm. A canteen will be operating and spectators are very welcome!
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. Ladies Day - Wondai
This weekend's rugby league will be played at Wondai Sportsgrounds (see entry below) and the Wondai Wolves women will be hosting a Ladies Day in the clubhouse to give it an extra special touch. The event will have a "Black & White Glamour" theme with lucky door prizes, live music, a prize for the best dressed lady, guest speakers, a full bar, sweet and savoury refreshments and a great view of all the matches taking place on the grounds. This will include an U12s girls invitational at 12:30pm and the first of the day's two A-grade games between the Cherbourg Hornets and Nanango Stags, which will get underway at 1:30pm. Tickets are $20 per head and the event will run from noon to around 3:00pm. All women are welcome!
Saturday Rugby League - Wondai
The South Burnett's rugby league competition will be run in the north today, with all games played at the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD. Because it's school holidays there won't be any junior matches, but the action will kick off at 10:45am with an U14s match between Cherbourg and Nanango. This will be followed with an U10s girls invitational match at 11:45am, and then an U12s girls invitational at 12:30pm. After this, the first of this weekend's A-grade games - between the Cherbourg Hornets and Nanango Stags - will get underway at 1:30pm, and it will be followed by a second clash between the Wondai Wolves and Murgon Mustangs at 3:00pm. Meanwhile, the Wolves will be hosting a Ladies Day between noon and 3:00pm at the clubhouse (see entry above). A bar and canteen will be operating on the grounds and all spectators are welcome!
