I don’t have a lot of bowls news this week. Reason? There’s quite a bit of visiting going on and quite a few of our region’s players are away.
There are no blue skies forecast for today and we’ve all had showers for the past few days, with most areas reporting over an inch.
I said last week that August would be interesting, and the month got off to a really great start.
Most clubs are now well under way with their club championships, and looking forward to the Spring carnivals.
The cold weather has stayed with us this last week, and it’s made sleeping in under warm covers a lot more attractive than it is in sunnier times.
The weather has been quite good for bowling lately: a cold start for each day, but no real wind.
My column is a little later than usual this week due to technical glitches (not at my end) and I apologise to any readers who were put out by its slightly later-than-usual appearance.

It’s been a bit of a chilly winter around the region this lat week – sunny days but very, very cool nights and the occasional frost in some places to keep the greenkeepers worried.
The big event this part week was the Burnett District Ladies Singles competition held at Kingaroy last weekend.
It’s been a bit chilly over the last week and it looks like Winter has finally arrived after a long, unseasonally warm Autumn.
The Queen’s Birthday weekend was a big one for Kingaroy, and they took the opportunity to finalise one of the remaining club championships: their Mixed Open Pairs.
It’s been great weather for bowling lately – and a great time of the year for visiting and hosting visitors.
What’s been happening at Nanango?
Yarraman has a new A Grade champion: Neil Johnson.
The Mother’s Day Bowls in Yarraman was a highly successful program.
One of the highlights of the Yarraman calendar has always been their Pines Carnival, held on the first weekend in May.
Most clubs are now well advanced with their Club Championships, and the weather is quickly sorting out the players from the stayers.
My online column is a little late this week because I wanted to include the latest news about yesterday’s Anzac Day competitions. I hope the slight delay won’t inconvenience regular readers.
