December 20, 2024
South Burnett Online will be taking a short break between Friday, December 20, and Sunday, January 19.
We will return to normal updating on January 20.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers and advertisers a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
While we’re away we’ll continue to broadcast some subjects (such as our live TV program schedules, weather reports, our Daily Events calendar and public notices from the South Burnett Regional Council).
We will also be posting occasional news updates if important stories break.
Our normal phone and email contacts will be open throughout the break should you need to get in touch with us.
And, naturally, we will be back at our desks immediately if a major news story breaks.

We would also like to thank you, our loyal readers, for your ongoing support of the South Burnett’s only 100 per cent locally owned, locally run daily newspaper.
As many of you are aware, 2024 has been a difficult year for us with the death of our founder and CEO Dafyd Martindale in September. He is missed deeply.
We have managed to keep the website ticking over with some difficulty but are quietly hopeful a new structure now being discussed will ensure that South Burnett Online can continue to provide a reliable, trusted – and free – news service for the region well into 2025 and beyond.
We hope to share more details about this after we resume daily publishing in January.
Some of you may have also noticed that some of our regular features – such as the free Business Directory – failed to work properly soon after Dafyd’s passing.
This was a coding error caused by an update that Dafyd would have been able to fix quick smart. It took Anne quite a bit lot longer to find a solution, but we’re proud to say that everything is now working like it should.
So if you’re a new (or old) business in the South Burnett (or the former Kilkivan Shire area), now is the time to check your entry and update it if necessary. We plan to be working on the Business Directory during our break.
Just fill in this form: https://southburnett.com.au/registersb.php
Also, if you see a business which has closed, please let us know and we will update the listing!
Since we moved to a daily news format in April 2012 we have published 25,809 articles, 6531 comments (the 21st century version of Letters To The Editor) and more than 56,500 images, nearly all of them about the South Burnett or about issues that could directly affect the people who live here.
Every week thousands of readers visit us to find out about local news and – thanks to our advertising supporters – are able to do it for free.
So after a brief break, we’ll be back in 2025 to do it all over again!
And hopefully, even better.
Thank you for your wonderful stories which mainly focus on events in the South Burnett. These will remain part of our history for years to come.
It’s been a very tough year for sure…..please enjoy a well deserved rest. Happy Christmas and I look forward to your return in 2025!!
This is the only place I get my local news. If it wasn’t for your work, I wouldn’t know what was going on around here! I’m sure it’s often a thankless and tiresome job, and sometimes you may wonder if people appreciate it… well I DO.
Thank you for keeping me up to date with local going ons and providing photos of fun events too. Look after yourself, and as above, I look forward to your return in 2025. :)
Wishing you Anne, and your wonderful team a well deserved break. Like many others, I look forward to your return in 2025. With best wishes, Julie.
