It’s been a bit chilly over the last week and it looks like Winter has finally arrived after a long and unseasonally warm autumn.

The cold weather hasn’t deterred hardy bowlers, though, and there’s been action going on at clubs all over the region.

Lets look at some of the highlights:

Yarraman news:

The Yarraman ladies played another Ladies Singles match last week, and Kay Dugdell defeated Eunice Smith 25-17. Then Kay backed up on Wednesday to defeat Lori Holmes 25-17.

These wins have put Kay into a final with Jenny Moore, but a date has yet to be set for this match.

In the Mixed Pairs championship match played on Wednesday, John and Jenny Moore defeated Tom and Helene Johnson 25-15.

And in Trophy Day (also on Wednesday), where the trophy was decided on highest winning margin:

  • Kev Profke, Nev Lawrence and Yvonne Schultz def. Merv Fitch, Di Currell and Roy Wrembeck 19-13, margin of 6
  • Runners-up were Ivy Wrembeck, Ron Lucas and John Beattie def. Daphne Stewart, Glenda Wolski and Leo Robinson 24-20. margin of 4.
  • Another match of interest: Neil Currell and Bev Profke drew with George Wolski, Eileen Elliott and Margaret Willoughby 16-all.

Social matches were played last week too:

  • Neil Johnson and Jenny Moore 23 def. Brian Dugdell and Di Currell 23-13
  • John Moore, Eileen Elliott and Neville def. Yvonne Schultz, Leo Robinson and Horst Meyer 22-11

Finally, all ears and eyes will be on Neil Johnson this weekend.

Today he plays in the Champion of Champion Singles in Kingaroy and tomorrow he will be teaming up with Brian Dugdell, George Wolski and John Moore in the Champion of Champion Fours.

Kingaroy news:

The big news in Kingaroy this week is that their Ladies Open Singles final has been played, with Diane Reed defeating Annette O’Brien 25-15.

Going down their program board in last Sunday’s Social:

As usual, our weekly report kicks off with a check on how the scroungers played last Friday.

I’m pleased to report that Ben Pratap found some of his old form and took out the “Best Scrounger” title with 109 points.

Henry Bleisner was next best (but a fair way back) with 71 points.

The final of the B Grade Singles was played between Glen Yeates and Ben Pratap, too.

The first eight ends were very close, but then Glen put his foot down to make it a one-sided event. winning 25 to 7

On Tuesday in Social Triples with 1 for an end and 4 for a win:

  • Trevor George, Bob Hall and Ed Haycock – 22pts
  • Keith Carroll, Linda Steverink and Jim Fowler – 20pts
  • Bob Hammond, Cec Bracken and Allan Ward – 17pts

And in Wednesday’s Ladies Social, Kerry Little, Sylvia Fanning and Sue Tucker def. Di McNeilage, June McKee and Evelyn Jensen 18-16.

Kilcoy news:

Kilcoy Club Championship Results:

  • In the Men’s Triples first round game, Bill Edwards, Harold Alford and Bert Christie defeated Leigh Irwin, Lester Bechly and Jamie Mitchell (score unavailable).
  • And in the Ladies B grade semi-final, Margaret Worrall defeated Pauline Lawson 25-21 in a very close game.

In Tuesday’s Star of the Green competition, Jenny Edwards defeated Brett Kelly. Jenny will now play Pauline Lawson in two weeks.

And in Tuesday’s social:

  • Marg Dahl, Bert Christie and Liz Frawley def. Jeff Welden, Flora Kelly and Ann Pope 14-12
  • Bill Edwards, Dave Scott and Adam Scott def Dennis Thomson, Nelly Herbert and Vallna Wells
