The internet problems that hit several local bowls clubs last week appear to have cleared up, so I’ll lead off this week’s report with the Nanango results that couldn’t get through the wires last week.

Before I do, though, I think it’s interesting to note how dependent we’ve all become on the Internet over the last decade.

It’s hard to imagine life without it these days, isn’t it? Outages drum this home to all of us on the rare occasions they occur.

And contrary to the view that only the young use the Net, it’s a medium for all ages these days.

Anyway, let’s get into it:

Nanango news:

Last Sunday week was the Nanango President’s “At Home” games, and there was a good roll-up from all over.

More than 50 bowlers took to the greens with scoring four for a win plus ends.

The winners were the Tansey team of David Malpass, Don Richards, Bev Heness and Alec Barsby who came in with 30pts, followed closely by the Kingaroy team of Bruce Johnson, Barry O’Brien, B. Bogoure and Kev Raffin who notched up 29pts.

In Friday Scroungers, the top scroungers were Josh Fisher on 58pts, followed by Greg Pogson with 57pts.

Last Saturday, Nanango played Triples, with a draw for partners and a trophy sponsored by the two Presidents. Scoring was 4 for a win + ends. The top scores were:

  • Muriel Benfield, Nev Lawrence and Glen Yeates – 23pts +38
  • Sylvia Fanning, Greg Pogson and Ben Pratap – 23pts +34

On Tuesday in Social Pairs, with conditions of play 4 for a win plus ends:

  • Alison and Phillip Roxby – 27pts (visitors from across the ditch)

Kingaroy news:

Bowlers from throughout the Burnett district converged on Kingaroy for Ladies President Diane Reed’s Day.

The played Triples and Fours over 21 ends, with conditions of play six points for a win and one point for each end won:

  • Winners: Lynn Halliday, Felipe Munoz, Ross Olsson and Helene Johnson – 23 points
  • Runners Up: Wendy Krosch, Alwyn Reed, Beryl Woods and Diane Reed – 22 points
  • Third: Mike Rounce, Barry O’Brien, Bev Profke and Glen Yeates – 21 points

On Sunday, it was Irene and Kerry Smith Day.

Irene and Kerry are leaving Kingaroy to move to Bribie Island, but they decided to sponsor a day of bowls before they left and a good crowd turned up to say goodbye.

And on Wednesday – Patroness Day – both the men’s and ladies clubs rolled up to support Patroness Bess Thorp on her sponsored day.

Ninety-four year old Bess is still a regular participant in the game and insists the game – together with the companionship – helps to keep her young.

Ladies President Diane Reed insists that Bess is an inspiration to all her fellow bowlers.

On Thursday, the club played their regular weekly Pairs and Triples, with winners determined by six points for a win and one point for each end won.

  • Runners Up: Harry Read and Ray Crawford – 19 points with a margin of 3

Kilcoy news:

Kilcoy’s Club Mixed Pairs Championship matches were played on Tuesday, and Jeff Welden and Nellie Herbert defeated Max Morrow and Tracey Evans in a close one: 23-19.

Also on Tuesday in a Star of the Green match, Jeff Welden defeated Noel Lanes. Tony Gray will play Brett Kelly next week.

And in other matches:
