Police have charged five youths and an 18-year-old man after an investigation into the wilful damage of graves at Cherbourg last week.
About 4:30am on Friday, police received reports a fence and several headstones in the cemetery had been damaged after being driven over.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located a 2017 Toyota RAV4 and a 2006 Honda Accord, stolen from Wieden Street in Kingaroy about 3:30am the same day.
A third vehicle, a black 2012 Citroen C5 – stolen from Avoca Street in Kingaroy on July 2 – was found burnt out a short time later.
The offences the six people have been charged with:
- 14-year-old Cherbourg boy – 4 x enter a dwelling and commit an indictable offence; 4 x unlawful use of a motor vehicle; enter premises with intent; enter a dwelling with intent; wilful damage; and unlicensed driving. He appeared in the Caloundra Children’s Court on July 4.
- 15-year-old Cherbourg boy – unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in Murgon Children’s Court on July 14.
- 17-year-old Kingaroy boy – unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in Kingaroy Children’s Court on August 3.
- 17-year-old Kingaroy boy – 2 x stealing a motor vehicle; 2 x enter a dwelling and commit an indictable offence; enter premises with intent’ and attempted enter dwelling with intent. He was due to appear in Kingaroy Children’s Court on Monday (July 6).
- 17-year-old Cherbourg boy – enter a dwelling and commit an indictable offence; unlawful use of a motor vehicle; and wilful damage. He has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
- 18-year-old Kingaroy man – unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday (July 6).
Investigations are continuing.
