Blackbutt cemented its reputation as a “timber town” at its annual show last weekend, with big crowds turning out to watch the woodchopping and chainsaw competitions.
Every age group and skill level seemed to be competing in the chopping ring, from children to veterans and Australian, Queensland and international champions.
A visiting team of competitors from New Zealand added to the rivalry, taking on local axeman competing in Blackbutt colours on Friday and Saturday.
But the show wasn’t all about timber … there were also cattle (see below), a well-supported dog show, poultry and, of course, the pavilion competitions and sideshow alley.
Blackbutt Lions Club members manned the gate, while Yarraman SES volunteers were making sure the car-parking went smoothly.
Out in the ring, the Outback Jack’s Stockman Show had some old favourites at the show including sheep dogs and whip-cracking.
Fireworks filled the sky at night followed by live music.
