Candle lighting ceremonies were held in Nanango and Cherbourg this week to mark Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
The Nanango event was hosted by Cr Jane Erkens and Cr Danita Potter in the grounds of Ringsfield House on Tuesday evening.
The Uniting Care Safe House hosted the Cherbourg event on Wednesday morning at the Lena Buck Centre.
The events acknowledged the people who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence, as well as those who have survived the trauma.
They were an opportunity for people to share experiences and get information in a safe space about where to get help.
“Domestic and family violence causes deep harm,” Cr Potter said at the Nanango event.
“It damages not only the person directly affected but also children, parents, friends and other loved ones who are left to carry the pain, fear and disruption that violence creates.
“The effects can reach far beyond the immediate incident and can last for years.”
