The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), which held its quarterly meeting on Thursday in Kingaroy, says the modelling for TC Alfred looks “favourable” for the South Burnett.
The group is hoping the region will receive “minimal impact” as the system tracks its way towards the southern end of Queensland however the LDMG’s status will remain at “Alert” level.
“Our LDMG and Council have been doing preparation work in case the system does move back to the north-west once it makes landfall,” LDMG chair Cr Danita Potter said.
“We may see increased rain, therefore we are still sharing the same message: Be prepared but not alarmed, and continue to follow the Bureau (of Meteorology).”
“The LDMG will continue to work with partner agencies including the Bureau and Queensland Police to provide updates to the community as required.
“We will monitor the conditions and cyclone track maps over the coming days.”

South Burnett supermarkets have been hit by panic buying even though the cyclone will cross the coast more than 200km away.
Customers have been reporting empty shelves across the region on social media.
In Kingaroy, signs appeared in the Woolworths supermarket in Shoppingworld on Thursday stating the store would not be receiving any deliveries of milk, meat, produce or groceries until March 10 “at this stage”.
This was because Woolworths’ distribution centres in Brisbane have been closed temporarily due to the impending cyclone.
