Tatjana and Alex Niven, from Wondai, were getting into the Christmas spirit at the Proston Christmas Carnival

December 12, 2023

The showgrounds were the place to be on Saturday night in Proston if you wanted to catch up with Santa!

Father Christmas arrived in style, sirens sounding, in a fire engine from the local QFES station.

He was immediately swamped with children as he stepped out of the cabin and made his way to the side of the oval to hand out goodies.

Proston’s annual Christmas celebration featured market stalls and live music by Natalie Fenton.

The younger children were enjoying the free slide and jumping castle, which were erected behind the grandstand.

Local councillor Kathy Duff enticed some of the children into a girls versus boys tug-o-war … and just like at the Murgon carnival on Friday night, the boys won!

Volunteers from local community groups were kept busy raising funds via raffles, a sausage sizzle and cake stalls while volunteers were keeping the adults refreshed at the bar.

The event was organised by the Proston Show Society.

Santa was popular when he arrived in his fire engine, and even more so as children queued up to see him
