FLASHBACK: The weighbridge at the entrance to the Lucks Road waste facility in Kingaroy … a weighbridge will now also be installed at Wondai

September 5, 2023

A weighbridge will be installed at the Wondai Waste Facility, thanks in part to a State Government grant.

South Burnett Regional Council was successful in Round 3 of the 2022-2024 Local Government Levy Ready Grant Program to carry out capital works at the waste transfer facility.

It received a $368,973.75 subsidy towards the cost of upgrading the facility, installing a weighbridge with waste measurement software, and building an operator’s cabin.

The funding will also cover associated roadworks.

The remaining cost of the upgrade – $221,384.25 – will come from Council funds.

The project will begin in November and will be completed by the end of the next financial year.

Council also has a deadline of July 1, 2024, to install a weighbridge at the Nanango Waste Transfer Facility.

  1. Golly, gee whiz; this equals less potholes filled in and far less needed road repairs!

30 years ago, any local even daring to mention something like this would have ended up in a straightjacket and laughed out of the meeting room!

  2. They wouldn’t be laughing if they knew about the charges the politicians are imposing on all local councils in Queensland to cut down the amount of rubbish going into landfills. Do you really think this mob could care less about recycling unless they were forced to by the Premier and her pals? Do you reckon they really want to construct expensive weighbridges at the tips? They’ve got no choice.
