South Burnett Regional Council has reminded motorists they should always drive to conditions on unsealed roads.

“Just because there’s no signed speed limit, it doesn’t mean open slather in driving at high speed on unsealed roads,” Cr Kirstie Schumacher told a recent Council meeting.

“That would be an invitation for tragic accidents on rural roads.”

Conditions can vary at different times of the day, and from day to day.

The onus is on the driver to travel at a speed that is safe for the road surface, appropriate to their driving skills and suitable for the vehicle they are driving.

Deputy Mayor Cr Gavin Jones, the roads portfolio holder, said Council could not put up speed limit signs on these roads.

“We strongly advocate that drivers take care to drive to conditions on gravel roads throughout the South Burnett to avoid accidents,” he said.

  1. With the amount of trucks on Gordonbrook-Memerambi Road, the road is always cr*p. Even had a ambulance on the way to a job go off the road last year. As a State road the Qld Gov are glad to get royalties from the quarries but not willing do any more than band-aid fixes once or twice a year.
